Goldeneye64 is my number 1 game
i had good times with Unreal Tournament 2004 as well back than in terms of team based pvp
besides mentioned Rocket League and CS go i have some other options u could consider ;p
World of Warcraft [subscription and pvp starts at lvl 10 but better at higher level] loads of people to fight against inside the battlegamemodes as outside
as of recentlly i have been enjoying a lot of GTA V wich have mini game modes such as team based motor racing called slipstream where u have to work together as 3 or 4 people passing the checkpoints but being wary of other teams trying to slap u off the bike with a wrench or such also other gamemodes where u have to work as a team to steal or invade other teams territory [motorclubs] and besides team vs team u could also try out heists or other many gamemodes such as a prison break or heists
last option Now if u dont mind playing brainless co-op u could try Serious Sam 3 obviously not a big storyline but quite enjoyable with a big group [up to 16 player co-op]
Besides these i see a lot of people mentioning insrgency wich i hear good comments from other steam friends and same goes for Paladins and Overwatch
Ps. if u really dont care for platform than WORLD CUP NES might be a fun game ;p if one can consider the supershots as a pvp thing ;p

This came out recently if you want to give that a test drive.

Music: Yes.
Nostalgia: Yes
Game play: Eh. I couldn't get into it (probably because I sucked and I just got killed all the time.) The original GoldenEye had a ton of auto-aim which this one doesn't have, so I kept missing everyone.
I recommend you give it a go for a few games if it interests you. If you don't like it, you can always uninstall.

Some of the Team PvP FPS games that I most enjoyed:
Goldeneye (1997)
Quake 3 Arena (1999)
Unreal Tournament/GOTY (1999-2000)
Perfect Dark (2000)
Command & Conquer Renegade (2002) <- My favorite
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territories (2003)
Star Wars Battlefront (2004)
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005)
I've mostly been playing co-op and MMO since then, and no other more recent Team PVP shooter games come to mind as having really drawn my positive attentions (Other than Murder Miners (2014), but that's all but dead now.) Though I am looking forward to Murder Miners X, the currently-being-developed sequel. ^.^)
I did try Team Fortress 2 (2007), and couldn't stand it. :X
Similarly, I found the Call of Duty games to be profoundly dissatisfying in their own right, even before you factor in that (Wolfeinstein aside) I find WW2 a profoundly boring setting for a game.
Likewise, not at all a fan of the Halo games. :X
Left4Dead2 (2009) has some decent online play, but it's limited and awkward, and I'm already burnt out on it.

Outside of FPS/TPS, I've been enjoying Brawlhalla and Rocket League, which both have Team PvP functionality, though their bugs and issues sorta drive me up the wall on a regular basis [especially for Brawlhalla, where the devs have made it clear that greed is a much strong motivation for them than quality assurance].
So, give me your best Team PvP recommendation, which ideally is
I've heard good things about Verdun, so I'm especially keen on information on that (as well as your opinions on the recent Battlefront game, for obvious reasons. ~.^)
