Which "User Interface" are you using?
The new UI seems fine for now. Haven't had any major issues so far.

Seems like a lot of folks notice a dramatic slowdown due to all the new, shiny animations, as well as some folks like myself being unable to sign in period. :c But if it works for you, enjoy it! It certainly was a long time coming on Valve's part.

Oh shiet, I actually have a solution for this one as well: whenever you have a flag you can't clear on the client, you have to do it from a browser and or the app. I've had multiple flags for chat notifications in the past and going to the chat on my browser cleared it no problemo.

Steamgifts has similar issue (for me at least), whenever i get a notification (eg. won a game or response to comment) there is no way to clear it from browser, only sollution i got is mobile steamgifts app.

I think it looks nice but has a few quirks. The one that gets under my skin is when you mouse over somebody on your list, and the box for their profile details shows up. If I click off the window to focus another window, it will stay there unless i mouse over someone else.
Really irritating. Other than that I hardly use it since Discord exists, yknow.

FYI, the parameter "-nochatui" doesn't exist in the Steam's EXE, so it's not a valid option and do nothing if used. Only "-nofriendsui" should be used to revert to the old chat UI.

I like the new ui, but it's really slow for me sometimes. It feels a lot like the overlay browser, which sucks in all aspects (but I'm comparing only the "slowness" here). They should do something about it. If both the ui and the browser felt like actual functioning softwares and not something from 2000 duct taped to look modern, that would be great.

I don’t use much of Steam itself. So new UI isn’t really an issue I have to get used to. However, the brief time using the new chat (not in web browser) I didn’t like having the huge buttons covering up half the horizontal space of the text box at the minimum window size.

well ive just stuck with what was there so the new one. however i did go a couple of weeks of being stuck on invisible mode. no matter how much i clicked online it refused to move so it looked like i was inactive for days until i went on phone

this was all shortly after i deleted people spent like 2 weeks alone and then went back to 2 friends just to find out i still cant talk to them

Is there a good, proper way to prevent Steam from updating? I would prefer having a stable and properly working chat instead of that shitty, broken, piece of shit.

I took a look at Reddit earlier to see if anyone smarter than me has figured out something but there was nothing yet. From the info I have seen now you can disable it with -no-browser instead but it takes also a lot of other quite important (to me at least) functionality with it.
If someone doesn't figure out something in the next few hours before I go to bed and shut down my PC I guess I will just be forever offline on Steam and forget Steam chat ever existed. Nice work Valve.

Shame :/ I am still hoping someone will figure something out really soon, otherwise I will just set myself to offline and forget the Steam chat exists. Oh well.

I had to return once to the old UI to stop the messages from groups. Other than that, no problem with the new UI.

You can make a new update, because apparently -steamos brings it back. Gonna test it in a short bit.
Edit: works absolute wonders, lets see for how long they let us keep it.
Double edit: disabled the Steam overlay as well but while it will be annoying when I will have to tab out to answer a message while playing CSGO, I can live with that.

With Steam's latest User Interface update I've been unable to sign in to the friends list, destroying any chance of social interaction as well as depriving me of some games that require you to be "online." I reverted back to the old UI using launch parameters and it not only works, it's even worse than before! They stripped out a ton of functionality to re-purpose it into the new UI thus tabs like "Voice" are just gone. (Games like Killing Floor 2 and Saint's Row IV offer microphone options in their settings that actually bring up the old "Voice" tab.)
SO WHAT'S YOUR STORY!? Is the new UI dope, or is it hot garbage? (Psst, it's hot garbage.)
-nofriendsui
Edit: It was just brought to my attention that a recent Steam update has nullified this parameter... meaning that if the issue keeping myself and other users stuck "offline" with the new UI client is still present... we're entirely fucked. Haven't had a new "fix" brought to my attention but currently I'm not up to date with my Steam client and am running the old UI with the parameter just fine. I suppose my only advice is to be fast on that cancel click for your Steam client update on initial launch from boot (as any launch after skips the update search and goes straight to account login/auto-login) and maintain the same parameter.
TL;DR: Steam did the thing again and now -nofriendsui doesn't work. "Good luck, suckers!" -Valve (Jokes)
Edit 2: Reports are coming in of -steamos seeming to work though it gets rid of the in-game overlay. That seems to be the best solution so far. Other reports of "-nobrowser" seemed to have "worked" as well but with many more removed features including web usage via Steam, seems like a less optimal solution. Thanks again, Valve! (Gosh, dang, darn it...)
