With Valve's recent decision to allow games with sexual content to be sold on Steam, and games such as Boobs Saga releasing on the near horizon; I'm curious how websites like this one will react when Valve opens the floodgates. I can only assume there will be an influx of cheaply made porn games selling for dirt cheap that will eventually make their way to giveaway sites in hordes, and with one of the rules on SG being "Piracy, pornography, and other material that may be inappropriate to a general audience should not be posted to the site", I'd assume that rule would have to be tweaked or just ignored in this context.

Sure, we already have hentai puzzles and the like, but I'd think actual flash game sex simulators could be a little different, or maybe not. I'm all for A/O games, adults should be able to play and pay for what they want and it could bring out some actually good games with an A/O rating, I believe currently the only A/O game on Steam is Hatred. Sorry if this post is dumb, I'm just legitimately curious what kind of effect it could end up having on sites like SteamGifts.

Should I be allowed to freely give others the gift of porn?

Explicit pornography shouldn't be listed in a giveaway without at least some kind of NSFW tags!
Screw that, embrace the fappening!

Depiction of sex isn't as bad as killing/torturing etc. So imho this decision was overdue.

Now one could say that SG would have to implement an age check due to this, but it neither has one for extreme violent games. And the ToS at least states that members have to be 16 or older. But depending on game logos an image spoiler for that might be needed (because you can't avoid them in the public GA list)

Or are you referring to the SG ToS? I can't find anything on SG that says something about age, but there might be, it's been a while since I last checked.

I still find gore more nsfw than boobies but that's NA for ya XD I don't think I'll ever get used to it, haha. If there wasn't any gore filters in place I don't see why there'd need to be boob filters, that seems a bit hypocritical. That said I understand everyone has different needs for customization and optimization. Nothing would change for me, in the end.

Also I could be wrong but I think Steam libary icons even for 18+ games are what they deem SFW, so even when you land on the age check page you're not immediately exposed. In theory. There'll probably always be bad devs trying to push it XD (SG uses the library icons for GA images, right?)

I hate that counterpoint of always saying X weapon is useless against tanks and aircraft. Tell the men and women deployed that guns don't matter when you have our military superiority. Why they never worry about weapons when to go into peoples homes! Tanks and aircraft don't go door to door after all the dust settles, armed men do. Guess it's better to be completely defenseless than to have a little protection though? Also this wasn't supposed to get this deep...I just get tired of reading constant negativity from certain individuals.

armed men and women have training.

if you live on a farm in the middle of nowhere, and the nearest police station is an hour away, then, yes, it makes sense to have a gun for safety.
If you live in a big city, it probably doesn't. Every responsible gun owner that I know keeps their gun unloaded and in a safe. Unless you regularly get training, it takes less time to call the police and wait for them to show up than it does to get to your gun safe, fumble the combination because your adrenaline is rushing, get it open, load the clip, and be ready to fire.

note: I'm all for responsible gun ownership, enjoy shooting targets, clay pigeons, and hunting. But 'self-defense' is bullshit

Please tell that to the mass shooters as well that coincidentally only happens in the US at a frighteningly common rate, maybe they didn't get the memo that they should wait for the Germans attacking again before shooting stuff up. Not like anyone ever invaded the mainland in a century or so, so those patriots maybe don't need those guns that much, but better be safe I guess. Though shooting would be best in the shooting range, still.

a study of global mass-shooting incidents from 2009 to 2015 by the Crime Prevention Research Center, headed by economist John Lott, shows the U.S. doesn't lead the world in mass shootings. In fact, it doesn't even make the top 10, when measured by death rate per million population from mass public shootings.

So who's tops? Surprisingly, Norway is, with an outlier mass shooting death rate of 1.888 per million (high no doubt because of the rifle assault by political extremist Anders Brevik that claimed 77 lives in 2011). No. 2 is Serbia, at just 0.381, followed by France at 0.347, Macedonia at 0.337, and Albania at 0.206. Slovakia, Finland, Belgium, and Czech Republic all follow. Then comes the U.S., at No. 11, with a death rate of 0.089.

That's not all. There were also 27% more casualties from 2009 to 2015 per mass shooting incident in the European Union than in the U.S.

Google is so nifty.

LOL, nice stats. Death rate per million population is distorting the data in favour of big populations. 10 people died in US's 326M ? Death rate of one out of 32.6M 10 dies in Serbia, out of the 7 million? One out of 700K, technically showing Serbia being 46 times more dangerous with the exact same stats.

Now let's check that pretty data of yours with the actual populations of the first 5 and the US
Norway - 5.2M 1.888 - 9.818 dead / year on average
Serbia - 7M 0.381 - 13.868 dead
France 66.9M 0.347 23.249 dead
Macedonia 2M 0.337 0.674 dead
Albania 2.8M 0.206 0,5768 dead

US - 326M 0.089 29,014 dead

Ooops, look! If you actually multiply the population with the death rate, you'll get that US has more yearly casualties than any other country from the top of the list, with approximately 41 times more deaths than Macedonia or Albania (that were previously before US, because manipulating data is that easy). Also pointing out that while France is the odd one out, each of the other contries are super small, Czech Republic being the top with ~10M. And even France's case, the population difference makes each death count 5 times as much

Google is nifty, but knowing statistics and thinking a bit is niftier.

Fun story, I had always wondered why there were nude scenes in (American) horror movies. I didn't get why it was a package deal. Until I learned about their rating system. Suddenly it all made sense (well no sense per se but I understood why they do as they do).

We had anime like Ranma 1/2 airing uncensored in the afternoon, but stuff like Hellsing was reserved for certain channels past midnight. Make love, not war. Restrict gore, not boobs. /shot

(I say restrict because I am opposed to censoring as a whole. There has to be a better way! XD)

they just want to make sure they get the aging right or you end up with a movie like deadpool at age 15 and its to late to change it when they realise huh 15 year olds should not watching this! but hey it made them more money then other movies and with under half the budget so maybe 15 year olds are the way to go. that is for me in the uk. not usa at r which i just learnt now is 17... you may as well just put it as 18 at that point

Lets see, our ratings are 0 (like E for everyone I guess), 6, 12, 16 and 18+. Be it movies or games. If I am not completely mistaken, you were allowe to watch Deadpool at 16+ years of age here, which I think is fair enough. At least technically, your soon-to-be-adult children should have begun to form a degree of maturity at that age, and tbh I don't think there's a huuuge difference between being a 16er or adult with 18.

Still, the parents who want to take their elementary school kids to see Deadpool are either hilariously misinformed or sadly entitled. I remember seeing an online petition because a mum wanted her 9 year old to see it.

i know is not useful (maybe) for other , but 1 thing is sure for me , the fact that this website enable people to see only wishlisted games is a "SAVE" from some situation like that...
What i mean is,for example if i don't like games about "zombie" or "CAR" and then steam start to flood the market whit this games, and sg too start to flood it with,is not a problem for me,because i just see only the wishlist page where i see only games that i wishlist so i will never see it.

About STEAM there is already active FILTERS that filter the new released games and deals by genre that is "blacklisted" and i'm so happy that steam up the quantity of filtered tag from 5 to 10.

[NSFW]

[NSFW] There is no problem if there is this.
"I do not feel erotic in what is present in Steam"
First of all, I do not think that it is erotic.
Secondly, traveling in Japan before refusing.
Because something that was released in Japan only will probably be released to Steam.
Perhaps the criteria for "NSFW" will change thereafter.
Because the economy is not good, they are flying in different dimensions in the head.
It heads for real eroticism.
Japanese madness will become common sense of the world.
There is a book in which octopus blames a woman tentacularly in the spring painting (erotic book) of 1820.
The world is 200 years behind.

Is there a method in place that detects NSFW games automatically? I suspect someone will have to manually label sexually-charged games on this site apart from games without sexual content just like how one SG admin is in charge of adding games to the bundle list. Better yet, update the rules to acknowledge this site will have giveaways about sexual-charged games and the accountability will be on the user.

Recently I got a game where I was able to kill people. KILL PEOPLE!!! There should be a warning of games where people can be killed. I don't care about sexual acts. We wouldn't be here without sex. But violence is where I draw the line. Nobody under 18 should be allowed to play games where you can hurt somebody else. Even if its NPC's, because that means young minds become desensitised to violence in the real world. So yes, make sure every single time we enter SG, we have to click a page where we put our age. /irony Mode off

In this case it actually is. The age old controversy of violence in games and yet here we are today, still shooting at each other and blowing each other up. I get the reference and it fits rather well. Regardless, it's up to the parents to raise their children. They can choose whether their children are allowed to play these games or not. That seems to have been forgotten in this day and age. Too many rely on electronic babysitters now. Put an age suggestion on the label and let the parents do their jobs and make decisions based on their preferences. Gaming has become an adult's world as well now and I'm an adult and my gaming shouldn't be censored to pacify all of the parents who won't monitor their 10 year old kid on their own. Little ones should be playing Chutes and Ladders with their families and not shooting at each other anyway IMO.

Those games will be banned in a number of countries. It depends on if it's a purchase or activation ban.

If it's the former, they might be popular on SG as a way for people in those countries to get them.

If it's the latter, it will require more use of the region filters for GAs.

Why should this site change. You can already giveaway Nekopara, the Dharker games, those SakuraGames games, cheap 'sex' games, HuniePop, KARAKARA etc. already. Happened en masse too after being bundled.
Why would that change here when literally the only difference is you no longer need to install a tiny patch from another site now. That's... really all. I applaud it, but it doesn't change much at all for Steams storefront or Steamgifts "front" at all?

Since it seems that Steam has a problem where it legally has to put an age gate up and also not remember the user's answer, I wonder if that also legally applies to SG. There's no system for this currently, but is it because what SG does is different enough to not fall under this law, or is it just because SG doesn't adhere to the law and is obscure enough that it doesn't matter?

Steam remembers your age now. Whenever the "warning" pop-up came up, it would autmatically have my correct birthdate on it. They now have a new "filter" pop-up that now includes an "Adult +18 content" option, which has only been in effect for a week or so.

Strange, because the Q&A on the latest Steam blog post says:

Q: Why do you KEEP asking my damn age throughout the store?

A: We're with you on this. Unfortunately, many rating agencies have rules that stipulate that we cannot save your age for longer than a single browsing session. It's frustrating, but know we're filling out those age gates too.

If they solved it, that's nice.

The floodgates were already open with Steam direct's 100$ nominal fee, card farms, then now the achievement spam games to pass the "steam is learning" part of the game's lifecycle.
All that will happen is Steam will have more games with open sexual content. It's not much of a difference to see a shit VN with badly drawn girls with skin-thight clothes, or essentially the same, with shittily drawn tits out :D

Otherwise I have no idea what they mean on sexual content, actual sex or nudity? Some games already hav/had one or both, yet the main topic of these discussions is the visual novel genre that is way out of the core gamers' games of choice. Maybe I miss why this is such a big thing, but for me this feels overblown. Steam so far only harboured gore, dismemberment, humiliation and other nice things, I don't really feel like sex would be the worst that can happen in a game :D
edit: also regarding their new, extra filter on explicit content, I would be so thankful if they would just let me set my age on the account. They ask me everytime, they waste my time everytime, and I don't get younger to begin with...

The big difference (read: Only difference) is that you no longer need to patch.
So instead of censored HuniePop1 with a patch 5s away, now HuniePop2 is uncensored out of the box.
It's really just a nice convience for us against Valve's stupid decision to force censorship in the first place.
But yeah, seems some people really blow it up as if it's some big major change or something.
