Both your 22" and your laptop are closer to your eyes than the 27" is going to be. It's a big monitor and it'll have to be placed further back than your 22" - and eventually it'll be close to what you're seeing on your laptop.
If you can handle it, and a lot of people easily can, that's fine. Just be absolutely sure that you really can handle it and that you need it. I'm running 1680x1050 and the only time I want a bigger resolution is when I'm editing photos. I have no clue whatsoever what I'd do with 2560 horizontal pixels. You might, though :)

I can :D 1680 horizontal is already about 400 pixels too much even for browser windows. So I have some desktop icons on the left and the calendar and notes on the right. What else would I want to put there?
What I could use, though, is more vertical space. Unfortunately, nobody makes 4:3 monitors any more :(

So I'm thinking about doing some updating one one of my computers later this summer... What do you think of this one?
Old parts:
CASE: Fractal Desing Define R3
PSU: Corsair TX650W
HDDs...
New parts:
CPU: Intel i5-4670k
RAM: 16GB DDR3
GPU: Nvidia GTX 770 4GB or GTX 780 3GB
SSD: 240/256GB SSD
Mobo: Something...
Also I will probably buy 27" 2560x1440 screen, current prices aren't too bad for those anymore...
