If there's one thing I really like, it's learning fun random facts that I'll probably forget about in a few days.

I want some more cool people on my whitelist. So to get whitelisted, all you have to do is share a fun fact! Doesn't matter if it's a random fun fact about an animal or some weird science fact, or even if it's not so fun!

For example, recently, I found out you can't hum if you hold your nose closed.

I'm also having a whitelist-only giveaway here. (Level 0 and unfortunately regional restricted. Steam keys should have 0 restrictions on them >:()
https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/Olo99/
ENDED!

Edit: Whew! I was trying to reply to all the comments but there's so many! I don't wanna endlessly bump my own thread with all my comments. Thanks for wanting to be a part of my whitelist, guys. Altho I (probably) won't respond to your comment, I'm still whitelisting, I promise!

A couple random dino facts off the top of my head:
Dinosaurs aren't all extinct since birds are classified as dinosaurs. Birds are reptiles, and dinosaurs aren't lizards as their name would suggest (saurus).
We have an idea of what colors some dinosaurs had through studies of melanosomes, mostly in feathers. The big spiky Borealopelta for example was a ginger.

Reading the factoid about McDonaldization on the previous page reminded me of the Big Mac Index, which is used to compare purchasing power between countries/currencies, by using the price of a Big Mac hamburger in McDonalds restaurants. :)

The Big Mac index was invented by The Economist in 1986 as a lighthearted guide to whether currencies are at their “correct” level.
Burgernomics was never intended as a precise gauge of currency misalignment, merely a tool to make exchange-rate theory more digestible. Yet the Big Mac index has become a global standard, included in several economic textbooks and the subject of dozens of academic studies.

Seven moons are larger then Pluto, Venus is roughly the same size as earth, and there are a few moons that are larger then Mercury example Ganymede, Titan and Callisto being a bit smaller but also about the same size.
And the dwarf planet Eris in our solar system is about the same size as Pluto.

Oxford university is older than the Aztecs. As early as 1096, teaching had already started in Oxford. By 1249, the University of Oxford had grown into a full-fledged university. But the origination of the Aztec civilization, marked by the founding of the city of Tenochtitlán by the Mexica at Lake Texcoco, didn’t come until 1325.

Some species of mosquitoes can flip their wings up to 160,000 times per second. Yes you read that right, one hundred sixty thousand times. That creates a noise of 160 kilohertz, way above what human ear can perceive. Actually, if you hear a mosquito humming near your ear, it's because it's tired and it's flying "slow".
(Or it's not a mosquito, but some similar flying annoying insect. Unlike ladybugs. Ladybugs aren't annoying. Nor butterflies. Nor mantis - those are just scary. And they fly!)

As a second funny fact, there are several animal species named after Gollum/Sméagol. Not all are creepy.

Chainsaws, the traditional murder weapon in horror films, were invented to aid childbirth.

For those who don't speak Russian like me :)

The chainsaw was invented to help with childbirth

How about that? Scary to imagine, right? That's right, the world's first hand-powered saw was developed in the late 18th century by two Scottish doctors. This saw assisted them in an operation known as a symphysiotomy - the enlargement of the pelvic bone by sawing for childbirth purposes. This procedure was considered an alternative to a Caesarean section, which in those days was a dangerous and incredibly painful procedure because general anesthesia had not yet been discovered.

Fortunately, by the end of the 19th century symphysiotomy, like similar saws, had lost its popularity and in the early 1900s chain saws began to be used for logging.

And for those who are even more curious: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chainsaw#In_surgery

In the movies when a person dies with eyes wide open they always use the hand to gently close the eyes for dramatic effect on putting the deceased to rest, In real life it doesn't usually work that way and It may be only done a few hours after death, sometimes glue is even applied just to shut down the eyelid totally

For a wide range of fun facts on a number of underrepresented and underrated topics, mostly related to insects, arachnids, parasites, ticks, horror, monsters, and many other related subjects, I highly recommend checking out Bogleech's writing: https://bogleech.com/ and his Tumblr: https://bogleech.tumblr.com/
He also does art related to these topics, posting it on his website, Tumblr, and DeviantArt, and has written some books and sold some merchandise (pins and such) on Amazon and Etsy. He does blog semi-frequently about social justice issues and the like, some of which may contain triggering content, so tread carefully and mind his tags, especially if even some of his fun facts weird you out a bit too much!

Also, here are two fun facts for you: there is a protein named after the Pokemon, Pikachu! It's called Pikachurin and you can find more info on it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikachurin Problems with the binding of this protein can be responsible for issues with your eyes.

Second Fun Fact: Have you ever watched Vinesauce? Specifically, this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq03CWp_-OQ The events that occurred in this video are responsible for popularizing what had previously been a relatively obscure glitch in all versions of GTA: San Adreas. The top comment of the video, by Harper, explains the glitch in more detail, but to sum up, drinking WAY too many cans of Sprunk at once causes memory issues with the game, making it crash. This normally wouldn't be an issue upon restarting the game, but because the "Definitive Edition" of the game on the Switch has an autosave feature, and it just so happened to save on the moment of the crash in the video, Joel ends up bricking the game permanently (although he was unaware of the glitch to begin with). The whole video is even funnier with the context of Joel's previous playthrough's of GTA games and his previous attempts at successfully betting on the horse races in the game, which unintentionally led to this glorious moment in gaming history.

Feeling hungry, doesnt mean that you are.

Most people overeat, and are used to feeling internal pressure from their stomach. This trains your brain to misunderstand when you are actually in need of food, as most of us are used to both overeating, and/or eating to self medicate, as a full stomach has a similar effect to taking a sedative.

It is ok, and actually healthy to go at least one day without eating every few months, as this gives you a better ability to train your body, digestion, and overall make you more healthy.

One proof of how people medicate with food, is they react like drug addicts when suggesting they change what they eat, r go without eating for much more than 8 hours.

I'm a locksmith that does mostly cars. There are only so many ways to cut a key. This seems obvious at first but when you factor in how the locks are made and restrictions on how the keys are cut, your key works in many cars. You can probably open several other cars of you same manufacturer in your town! And not all cars use all the cuts in every lock, so you may be able to open a door but not turn the ignition. This still grants an acceptable level of security because it is hinged on somebody with a ford not just randomly trying their key on every ford they find. The same goes for house locks. It is actually very likely if it has never been rekeyed by a locksmith because the hardware stores only sell so many different keys.

Did you know that Brazil and France almost went to war in 1961?
French fishermen were getting lobsters off the Brazilian coast. Brazilian navy drove them out.
Eventually, France sent warships to protect "its right to fishing in international waters". After a major builldup of foces, both sides agreed to have a court to arbitrate over the matter.
The French claimed that the lobsters 'jumped', so they'd be considered 'fish'
The Brazilian side stated that, in order to accept French's claim, France would have to accept that when a kangaroo 'hops' it would be considered a 'bird'.
The French left without further comments.
