After 2 weeks of no pc and a MASSIVE pile of stress, I found out that the parents are going to help me out and buy me that new Alienware desktop I have been needing.

Now I know you all say 'build build build', but the time and money are not there for me. ESPECIALLY the money. So if they are willing to buy the Alienware, who am I to complain?

IF I can EVER get a new job, and make a decent living, then I WILL save to build a pc. But until that day, a free pc with what I need to run DOOM, Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Fallout 4 at max settings with minimal to no lag will do.

At last, some stress is lifting.

Good for you! :D Which model they will buy for you?

The Aurora. I know it's going to have an i7, 16 gigs of ram, an Nvidia 1070 and a 1 terabyte HDD. I'd go for the SSD, but that would be beyond the $1500 limit they set.

Mighty nice of them, try to help them out a bit when you can and appreciate them.

I understand your situation all to well.

I would buy a cheap SSD from my own pocket if needed just for windows etc. And use the 1tb for storage.

No money. Besides, the first thing I need to save for now is a new monitor Mine is about 11 years old and only does 1680X1050 max. No HDMI. At least the cards still support DVI.

Wow they got really cheaper these days. Alienware used to be more expensive as far as I remember.

Edit: hm actually, are we talking desktop or laptop? If desktop, that's still expensive ^^

Fuck alienware mate. http://www.logicalincrements.com/ https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ you can somewhat look at what parts you'd need and how much they'd cost, and make a better pc for the same price inlcuding the hdd and an ssd at the side with a better gpu at about the same price.

Even if you don't want to build the pc, this would be a better option, it might not be as pretty, but it comes with a 1080 gpu, 32 gb ram and a 256 ssd besides the 1tb for the same $1500.

If they can buy you an Alienware, why can't they buy you equivalent parts for much less?

LOL no one "needs" an Alienware desktop. The word you're looking for is "want."

It is really nice of them to help you out, that's pretty awesome.

IKR. It's even implemented in The Sims 'needs' bar.

It certainly is!

Even if he doesn't want to build one, there are better websites. I just spent about the same amount on CyberPower and got a GTX 1080, and a 2 TB HDD, plus an SSD drive.

To be fair... you're saying that you "need" an Alienware desktop. Plus, it's a $1500 limit, as you mentioned before, so I'd suggest just getting the parts and building a supercomputer instead of the mid-high end one you'll get :D
But anyways, congrats.

Congrats on the new Pc!! but you're in the wrong if you think you'd need more money to build a PC than you'd need to get an alienware one ;) You'd get it way cheaper for better specs and it's easy to assemble, especially if you follow a guide online.

I see no problem in buying a pre-built PC. Did so myself. Because it was in a sale and for the same stuff in the cheapest parts I'd pay at least €100 more!

No experience with Alienware, but I suggest to check if it's easily upgradeable (my HP is, first thing I did was add some memory). So try to stay away from something like the RoG G20 series which are nice and look nice but have no easy options to upgrade anything!

EDIT Yes, also built my own systems in the past...

The old desktop I have had for the past 8 years that just died on me is an Alienware Aroroa R1. So I have had a good experience with them in the past.

I don't want to shred your dreams but fallout has some framerate problems even with a 1080 xD (but nvm it's totally playable)

To all that keep saying build-
1- I keep saying that the limit is theirs.
2- You want to get me the parts and build it for me? I'm not home during the day lately and by the time I get home I just want to eat dinner, rest and play some games.
3- The parents are paying so it's their call where it's from. So if they offer a brand I had a good experience with before, then I'll take it until I CAN build.

  1. It's your parents' money, you should care about it as much if not more than your own;
  2. Many specialized stores will build it for you for 30€ or so; you can buy all parts at one of those stores and you'll have a seamless experience, it'll be just like a pre-built, for less cost and/or higher performance; you can define a budget and people will suggest you parts if you don't want to spend time with it.
  3. Educating them on why building a PC is the better option is what you should do; not take advantage of their lack of knowledge to get an overpriced pre-built desktop.

This probably won't convince you because you seem to be brainwashed with completely wrong and baseless pro-Alienware or anti-customized build arguments, but hey, I tried.

EDIT: Sorry OP for expecting that you would listen to my opinion rather than ignoring all of it and blacklisting me.
