I just found out. What should my immediate course of action be, before it damages my computer too much. I've got microsoft security essentials scanning to find the Virus. Is there anything else I can do?

It is a common misconception that earthworms like apples: the stereotypical "worms" found in apples are in fact the maggot of the Codling moth, known agricultural pests.

Yeah, but everyone has that iconic image of a big worm sticking out of a apple with a smiley face.

I suggest you use Kaspersky's Free Virus Removal Tool:
http://www.kaspersky.com/antivirus-removal-tool?form=1

Disconnect the pc from the network / internet, if possible. It can spread like wild fire.

Disable auto-run or hold down the shift key when inserting discs / thumb drives / etc. As the worm will probably use autorun to spread. Scan all external drives like these for the infection as well (if you don't you might be reinfected). If your on a network, scan all pcs separately disconnected from each other.

You can try your Windows System Restore, but if not using it, it's actually best to disable it - as most trojans/worms tend to hide under it and therefore able to restore themselves each time you try clean.

All the best!

Also, don't forget to scan anything that might not be on the network, but has been sharing external media like flash drives, external hard drives, etc. with the infected computer (for example, an offline machine you might've used the same media with or perhaps a friend's).

Try Malwarebytes. If it's particularly persistent, try booting into safe mode and removing it manually.

Since you stole my favorite line hijacking this with HijackThis Use it to see what's running and ask someone before killing things with it... Unless you know what you're doing, but it is a great tool to see what's really happening.

AVG free and "SpyBot Search and Destroy" will help but many viruses disable anti viruses. If pop ups are happening, use the info to look up the virus online. If you are confident the info you get should instruct you how to remove the virus manually and stop it from blocking your anti virus. This will probably require you to go into safe mode.

Except both of those programs suck now. Spybot Search and Destroy was great back in 2005, it's been surpassed by many programs now. Same with AVG.

Malwarebytes is a great program for removing all types of malware and 1 full system scan should get rid of all the viruses. Remember to update to its latest version for it to be most effective.

Barring the thought that this is a stealth giveaway...

The following assumes you're running a Windows OS PC, 7 or under, and still have general internet access:
Go to BleepingComputer (if you don't get redirected), download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit, Combofix, and RKill, saving each as a random alphanumeric string. Reboot in safe mode with networking, run RKill (targeted biohazard icon), then run Malwarebytes A-R (it comes as a zip, so you'll have to copy the "mbar" folder out of the zip before you run it; desktop works fine for this). When you run MBAR you may get a notice mentioning a .DLL issue: if so, just hit yes, then keep going. Update MBAR, then scan. When it's done, if it asks to reboot, let it boot back into normal Windows. If it doesn't ask for reboot, reboot anyway back to normal Windows. Run RKill again, then run ComboFix (red circle with white roaring lion head). If it mentions any running protection programs, temporarily disable them. If it mentions it needs to download Windows Recovery Console, let it. All said and done, let it run, do NOT interrupt it. It will seem to hang during steps 1-6b, but once it passes them it'll fly through the rest. When it's done it may force a reboot. Whatever the case may be, it'll generate a log and finish automatically. You'll know it's done when it auto-opens the log in notepad. Close the log, reboot, and delete the tools. You're now about as clean as it gets. I would recommend then going to the Spybot Search & Destroy website, download the free version, update, and run the immunization as assistance to any other anti-malware you may choose.

IMPORTANT SIDENOTE: If at any time any scan mentions it detected ZeroAccess, well you were boned from the start. You WILL need a professional to come in, or a second PC to contact someone online.

And to think I charge $30/h to do this crap in person :P

My hedgehog had a worm too. Then she ate it. She's a champ <3

For other things to do, turn off your computer, start in safe mode, download every antivirus known to man on a different computer and keep throwing stuff at yours until you feel comfortable that you got rid of the problem. Best of luck!

Do what AzureFang suggested (MajorGeeks is fine too). You might as well go onto the forums for assistance before and after the scan too. It's free after all (just remember to not have any P2P software installed/visible in your logs) and it's kind of what they're there for.

In the future, just remember to disable the Java web plugin.
