Hello! I have Windows 7 32-bit version right now and I want to upgrade to Windows 10 64-bit version, but to do that, do I have to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit first, or can I do it directly? I don't care if I lose files or whatever, that's not the issue. I just want to know if I can do it directly or not. Thanks!

EDIT: I know you can't upgrade through the windows 10 download. What I'm asking is will that download give me the option to clean install windows 10 but in 64 bit?

Buy a computer with Windows 7/8 64-bits first, then upgrade to Windows 10.

Reinstall your OS with Windows 7 64 bit, your key is valid for both 32 and 64 bit, then upgrade to Windows 10.

There is no such thing as upgrade from 32 to 64 bit, only way is reinstall.

  • NOTE : If you want to do this make sure your CPU has the capacity to execute a 64-bit version of Windows.

CPUs that cannot run in 64 bit are from last decade.

I was going to mention ram limitations, but then I realized that computers come with 4+ gigs of ram as a base these days anyway.

I guess if you have less than 4Gb it probably simply won't let you upgrade.

It will, but I wouldn't recommend it.

No, because what you are doing is upgrading, not reinstalling, so to do that you need first to reinstall newly Windows 7 64 bit or reinstall newly Windows 10 64 from a USB or disk. Such option that they may ask you as clean install like you say doesn't exist.

Use this to reinstall from USB https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool you need an ISO file also.

it´is not unlikely that there will be a option for a clean install from an iso, cause the term upgrade in the case of windows 10 is a license term not a technical one.

You must have a 64-bit OS in order to upgrade to another 64-bit OS. You can't upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit.

I think it will offer you to download W10 with the same architecture as you have now through Windows update. So to get upgrade to Win 10 x64 you probably will have to do complete reinstall of Win 7 to install x64 version (if you have licence for it) and then it will offer you to upgrade to Win 10 x64.
