The 2 most important books from Orwell are just so powerful!

Dune by Frank Herbert. Before that the only things I knew about Dune were from the 1984 David Lynch film. I saw it when I was very young (several times I think) and I had no clue what was going on. I only knew that it was a popular title and felt like something epic was happening. I would later learn that it was not considered to be a very good adaptation of the book. I always thought about reading Dune when I was a teen but the confusing movie left an impression of being too...inaccessible. Too sci-fi and weird for me.
But, I needed something to read for those moments in the bathroom so I went with Dune :D
I'm liking it so far.

I'm reading it too! I've never seen the film (though I plan to when I finish), so I didn't really know what to expect. I'm also really liking it so far. I read Kenobi by John Jackson Miller last year (which was amazing) and now I see what inspired a lot of the concepts in the story. The creation of Tatooine is said to have been inspired by Arrakis, so it makes sense.

Cool. I would probably wait for the new Dune movie that's supposedly coming out this year instead of watching the 1984 version. Expectations are high that the reboot will be a very good Dune movie. I haven't seen the '84 film in many many years but watching the trailers for it today... it looks bad. The special effects are pretty awful. Even back then it was criticized for its poor effects.

to read the "Dune" in the bathroom is such an irony :D

One has not experienced Frank Herbert until they have experienced it in the original Klingon!

I just re-read this a few weeks ago, it's so damn good. The audiobook has some masterful production, I've listened to it a couple times as well.
Very excited for the films.

Three Comrades by Erich Maria Remarque
Since I read Catcher in the Rye I started to like this type of characters - daring, cocky and freedom-loving. Reminds me of myself. Well, or maybe the way I would like to be. :)
And here there are three of them. Nice.

Just started the Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin. I think I might already be in for the long haul.

I read it some years ago, and I pretty much liked it! One of the greatest writers in the fantasy field (and even better in science fiction form what I heard, even if I haven't read anything in that field from her).

I'm in a reading slump since a while so I have a bunch of unfinished books I'm trying to complete.

Hello all.
Also reading The Witcher saga, like some of you refered too. Getting to the end of it, I think. Starting the "Lady of the Lake" part 1 book. I recommend it. It is a great complement to the games (and vice-versa). Sapkowski writing is engaging.
In between playing some games, reading the Witcher and taking care of real life, i'm also reading "World Without End" by Ken Follett, follow up to the "Pillars of the Earth" novel. Also strongly recommend it, to all of you with interest on historic/middle age fiction.

I quite liked that historical saga by Ken Follett, now I have to read the latest sequel, "A column of fire"!

I'm bad with books, I have a hard time focusing and reading feels like work. But I'm trying to get through It Devours (a Welcome to Night Vale book).

Sutree by Cormac McCarthy. I'm about 40-50% through it so far. Its interesting but it is missing the writing flow that he has in his latter works.

So far, 2020 has been a bad year for gaming and a great year for books (30 graphic novels and 21 books).
I just finished "Things fall apart" by Chinua Achebe (which I really enjoyed) and currently I'm reading "The invisible cities" by Italo Calvino and "Flatland" by Edwin A. Abbott.

Great choice. Have you read any of his other Discworld books?

What's great is, you don't need to read them in order.
I recommend The Thief of Time, which is the only book I've ever read where even I had to give up where the story was going after a certain point. I did finish it.
Also, Soul Music, The Hogfather (don't ask until you read it), The Last Hero and ANYTHING with the Ank-Morpork Night Watch in it.

I see it's been a while since the last topic on this came up, but I thought I'd ask since I just started a new book myself.
Just started reading The Histories by Herododus. I was interested in this since I love most things about ancient Greece. Probably why I'm still loving Assassins Creed Odyssey. :P But these things are unrelated to why I chose that book.
So, what is SG reading now? Manga does count in this.
