I want to know your thoughts on that.
The reason I'm asking is because I see people entering giveaways without them even knowing which game is to be given to them if they should win.
Thought maybe you had a ready made explanation for this.

Winning a game here to give it away somewhere else is a good way to get a ticket to banland

Main reason I hoard games is I'm a cheap bastard. When ever I see good deals, and have money, I buy games that I will probably not ever play.

I only buy/enter for games I'm interested in playing... whether or not I do have time to play them does not factor at the time and I end up with an infinite backlog that I'll probably never go through.

However, there are also extra games from bundle that I will activate too even if I don't think I'll play them. I kinda figure that I bought it so I'd better activate it.

Look at my steam library, and I only started buying games (before, I was a pirate) only a bit over half a year ago, I'm a maniac.

Well, I buy games only when they are at least 75% off, so didn't waste that much. And yeah, started buying games just because I could finally afford them, before that I was still in school or army and I had absolutely no money so I couldn't buy games.

P.S; bought most of the games I pirated, even tho I probably will never replay them.

Why I 'hoard' games? On Steam, often because they are in very cheap bundles and maybe I want 1-2 games from it but feel like trying the rest. Generally I have a lot of games because I want to play a lot of games - I just tend to lack the time to do so or do stupid things like buy amazing new games and then end up replaying something old that takes ages to finish.

Why people enter giveaways when they don't even know what it's for? Because they just want to win and get free stuff regardless of what it is.

That's what I was wondering. Is there a script that just joins random GAs until you run out of points or something?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm sure there is. Or at least it would not surprise me.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Probably. There are scripts for just about everything else. I wish Steamgifts was more restrictive in this regard.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If not I'm sure somebody can write it. That's just the only way I can think of to enter a GA "without them even knowing which game is to be given to them if they should win."

I hoard games because part of me is still deluding myself that I'll play them one of these days. That said, I stopped entering giveaways for this reason. I've won a few games and I haven't played them or played them very little, and I feel uncomfortable entering for more. I still buy some games occasionally. Can't break the habit completely. And of course I spend a lot more money on Kickstarter games.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If I win any game, I download and install it to try it out. Then I generally tend to leave it for awhile before finally coming back to it and playing it properly (assuming I enjoyed my first play of it) again months later.

It's hard to tell the difference whether you'll play a game vs wanting to play a game.

1 decade ago

Hm this answer is actually the closest it gets for me, and not just for entering giveaways, but for buying them, too.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I hoard games but here I enter only those GA's of games I really want to play. I still haven't played some of the games I won though cause I have a huge backlog :(

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What happens to most is that "Oh look! X game is cheap I want to play that but dont have time. Might as well buy it to play it later" and the games just pile up!

Happens to me since PS2 games went cheap and now with steam too.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Currently I'm hoarding some games because firstly I've got to finish up school and secondly I've only got a laptop, therefore not many modern games run. I do play some that run, but only <20 hours every 2 weeks. May not seem like an "only" but I've seen people clock up 80 - 120 hours, and that's without idling. I guess what encourages me to hoard them is that I will eventually play them all, probably quite soon.
