For whoever is interested to try the game out, Cities: Skylines is free to play this weekend (ends Sunday). It's also 60% off on Steam, ends Monday. Just go to the store page and click "play now".

Is it regionally restricted? Cause I can see the Free Weekend banner but I don't see the "Play now". Normally the game should automatically appear on the Library with a "X days remaining" warning, and that's not the case either for me.

edit: I can dl now

It'll probably take some time. Can't download either.

Changes don't always propagate instantly, maybe the caching system...

Free weekend games haven't be auto added to libraries for months now.

Thanks for the heads up :)

You can currently get it at GMG for £7.20 instead of £9.19 (at least in the UK) with the voucher "FEBURY-SVINGS-20PERC". Not sure how long that offer will last though ..

Worth a try it is a great city builder though it might be for all because the over all challenge of the game is pretty weak, though i am not sure about the newest dlc and how that changes things. It is a bit round the edges but the best City Builder you will find on Steam.

To bad the free weekend also did not allow you to try out the dlc, would really like to give the new dlc a shot.

Also you can get the newest DLC on GMG for 20% off

Region restricted? I don't see anything but -60%. Am from Northern Europe.

ETA: shows up now. Weird.

Anyone considering buying the base game and/or DLC might want to have a look at imperialgames ;)

Sale discount (historical low base game, After Dark and Snowfall) was due to end earlier but it hasn't updated and is still processing orders at the discounted rates. Pages constantly refresh but you can still add to cart and check out. Keys available immediately :)

Do you happen to know if imperialgames is an official reseller? Never heard of them before.
I just checked it out, seems it's possible to buy stuff in US$, even from here in Western Europe.
The website says there might be taxes added according to location, but there were none,
when I checked it out. It's pretty cool, as there's not many shops that allow me to buy games
directly in dollars here. However, it's also on sale at Gamesplanet (only few cents more expensive),
so I might stick with them until I know that site is legit.

Can anyone recommend some must have mods for the game?

Traffic++ and Automatic Bulldoze are practically essential. I use a few more but they're mainly cosmetic.

I played it for about 10 minutes and I didn't like it, but I got two achievements without doing anything and those were achieved by 0.5% of people: Experience rain and Experience fog. And now they're stuck on my profile showcase :P

Rain and fog are features that were just added in the new update. They won't be that rare for too long. :)

Anyone who can't install and play the game from the Steam page should be able to so by pasting the following in a browser: steam://run/255710

I'm glad this was on a free weekend, I found out their listed minimum system requirements are absolutely a lie. You need at least 8GB, not 4GB, to even load into an empty map. Taken off my wishlist. :)

I used to play it on my laptop on low settings (4GB of RAM only)
