Well, you could try starting the game with /failsafe.

Also, what operating system are you running?

From a quick Google, it'd suggest that your graphics card isn't up to playing the game. I assume you've already tried updating DirectX.

What graphics card do you have? Are you playing on a laptop?

A laptop usually comes with some info writen on it about it's hardware, but you can always check by typing dxdiag on the start menu and running it, there you'll know what you're working with and people will be able to tell you if you're able to run it. >_<
