There are fun things to do in a small village.
What freaked me out though was waking up in the night in absolute darkness, because there were no lights at night and the room had one tiny window. I was so confused and didn't really know where I was so I kept touching everything around me :-) Totally not used to this since I grew up in the capital city and light pollution meant I could wake up at night and just see stuff pretty ok. That's my village story. Thank you for reading. Signing out.

Being in grandpa's village (well, the village where he grew up, by the time I was born he was there on summers only) are probably my most cherished memories from my childhood. Being a kinda city kid it was cool to visit my distant/not-so-distant relatives living in there and seeing and touching rabbits, pigs, geese, cows and other animals, driving on a combine, or going on a bike and ride the roads where all that's around is forests and hopyards.
Of course I don't know how I would feel there now with my Internet addiction. But I'm really grateful for 'offline' childhood.

Same here! From time to time, I try to "unplug" from the net by going there and the first two days are like a shock, but after it passes, it becomes a bliss. Sadly the last two years I couldn't find time for a longer vacation, only weekends and not so often as before. I'm 23 years old and I don't have kids, but someday when I do, I would like them to experience all those things you've mentioned.

Internet is a nice tool but it's easy to get lost in it.
I'm feeling quite sorry for people who grow up with omnipresent Internet access that won't get to experience those things, but then again I wonder if that's basically the same as how my grandparents might've felt with regards to television, and the generations before them about this or that, going back to the wheel and fire.

Hey EsE, I used to live in a small village with crappy internet so I can sympathise. Now I live in the big city where everything is faster e.g internet, food, crime, cars... and so on :)

Yeah, I miss the peace and quiet. And I know what it's like living with parents. Stupid little things start to really annoy you :) I think it's pretty normal though, so don't feel bad.
