I'm a Information Systems student finishing my first year of graduation and in the last weekend I went to my first Hackathon!

It was an amazing experience. I met incredible people and I learned a lot. I'm not going to describe all the event but I'll advise you who are afraid to go to this kind of event.

As I said, I'm finishing the first year of graduation and I was afraid I couldn't help my team, but, in the event, I realize that I know a lot (and you know too). And if you have any doubts, you can search on Stack Overflow, on Google, ask your teammates, ask the mentors in the event. You'll learn a lot in Hackathons and you can't miss this kind of event if you love technology, if you study in technology areas.

We're all afraid of the unknown, but we need to overcome them. And I'm 100% sure that you will LOVE Hackathons, that you'll meet great people (maybe your future associate, your future coworker) and you'll learn a lot.

Please, keep in mind that everyone can teach something to everyone and the knowledge you have worths a lot. No one will judge you because you want to learn more, people will help you. Please, keep it in mind.

Go watch it right away. Like for real.

Your life as a hacker will forever be an empty husk of what it might've otherwise be with its valuable cornucopia of knowledge and life lessons and good times.

Hackers is just a lot of fun, and so damned likeable. It's one of those movies that you can't help but finish watching when if you end up catching part of it while flipping channels. Hah, even after I posted that video i actually ended up getting mesmerized and watched a bunch of the other clips they've got up.

Even the most cringey 90's aspects are still really enjoyable and its easy to appreciate the flick for what it is on both this sort of tongue-in-check level of entertainment but also from a position of sincerity where it really is this genuinely well-constructed film across a lot of dimensions.

Why not? Almost people from all areas can go on Hackathons and I'm sure you'll learn a lot, meet nice people and eat for free. You don't need to know programming. Try to participate with a friend if you want, it's going to be an incredible experience.

Mainly time issues and I am not programming as much as I used to do.
My programming days were about 10 years ago while studying and shortly after. I had my crowd of study buddies to talk languages, algorithms and implementations, so I never felt the need to go to a hackathon.

Appreciate the inspiring post and giveaway, thank you.

I'm wondering, do you have any opinion about the recent Humble Book Bundle focused on hacking?

https://www.humblebundle.com/books/hacking-for-the-holidays-books

I have decent programming experience, but would like to learn more about the hacking and security area of things. Are these books any good?

I know that Hacking: The Art of Exploitation, 2nd Edition and Penetration Testing: A Hands-On Introduction to Hacking are very good, the first one is one of the best books about hacking (unfortunately they are in the PAY $15 or more tier, the most expensive one, but the first book alone in amazon is 30 dollars). The others I never read, so I can't say something about them.

I went to one of those when I was in university, got a chromecast for our team placing third.
It was fun, but just like game jams they suck up a lot of time and energy so it's hard to do them often.
