Nice article with several lists provided (click on the image of the table to open HTML list with working links), I recommend specially checking out the "really hidden gems" list... but others are fine too, found some interesting games I never heard of before.

oh yeah, the link http://www.nition.co/2017/06/finding-hidden-gems-on-steam/

I'm surprised Tetrobot & Co. is in the really hidden gems list.

somehow I'm not surprised to see a relatively large number of shmups there. Those still seem to be out of favor as a genre.

I linked the article and not the lists directly for several reasons, one of them so people can read on how they arrived to the lists as they are.

TL,DR; they sorted all the games that are rated above certain % but have less than 150 reviews in a year, which, it's suggested, makes them "good and loved, but not known outside of the niche audience". It's still not perfect and there's possibility for improvement, but it's the best approach I've seen so far.

Yeah, I've read the article, and it seems a solid methodology.

"good and loved, but not known outside of the niche audience" is especially why I'm not surprised to see a high number of shmups there ;)

Yeah, I already added Doom & Destiny, The House in Fata Morgana and Dream Quest to my wl, thanks to that article.

I hope it can help people, specially in the moment when mystery cards appeared... :) Apparently it's really fresh too, I think it's been published today.

It's fresh, but I've seen it on Twitter yesterday. I think such an alternative calculated rating/list could be really useful, permanently. But it would really need some filters.

Custom search would be even better... instead of predefined filters, you set your own like,

"under 3.49" and "indie" and "score above 80%" not "tag: visual novel" not "tag: bundled"

for example.

I think all of them are limited to 250 entries only, and one is "worst games" so you can avoid that one... so 2-3 lists left only.

It's a pity that they made this after the rework of the store - the Artifex Mundi games are only on the top because they don't really sell on Steam, as they are very soon bundled. Like Enigmatis 2 shows 378 reviews, while it has 301, almost the same amount of key-reviews. In his aspect bundled games are somewhat favoured on the list.

Well I think it's not that hard to avoid adding bundled games to your wishlist, specially if you have enhanced steam installed. But I agree, lists are not perfect and some games are far from "hidden" but ended up on the list anyway. That's why I recommended "really hidden gems" list, because it's more strict in punishing games with more reviews in order to push them down.

I don't care about my wishlist, I just care about that if a game was in a bundle I know about them, so they are really not hidden for me. :)
+ really hidden list doesn't really help either, because reviews from key activations doesn't count ; Out of top 10 of really hidden list 6 are bundled, they are not so rare.
(I didn't want to sound cocky, I jsut expected way more games I don't know about already)

i just can't understand why would it be so hard to put a price column in that list

Maybe the author never expected us to use the list in order to actually wl or buy games... but was working on a proof of concept or whatever. Try suggesting it to them in the comments below the article, maybe they'll add it.

I know most of the games from the first two lists, although once again Steam's stupid way of counting reviews messed up the whole thing so I don't think they're that much unknown (Artifex Mundi games are far from hidden gems, they're like the most well-known HOG publisher on Steam). I'll have to look into the next two lists, I only know a few titles from those (mostly VNs and doujin games). Thanks for sharing this.

Interesting work
But steam-reviews aren't so representative, most of them absolutely meaningless. So, whole list looks like random range of completely different games(even more than in any other "top-x").
