Hello. I've been working on android game (endless space shooter) for a few months and decided to work on 2nd game simultaneously. But I've run out of ideas... I'm thinking of building arcade game but I can't think of much. Any ideas on what I should create? I can do anything maybe if it includes 2D and I think my drawing skills are good too. Unfortunately I can't create PC games yet since $100 is a lot for publishing and I don't have that much yet, so... yeah, android game ideas are hard for me.
Thanks in advance, any ideas are appretiated!

My friend and colleague left my current project in another town accidentally and it's not that easy to start programming same game again, so that's also the reason why I want to create something new meanwhile.

I tend to gravitate towards puzzle games when I want to play something on my phone, I think the touch screen controls really fit the genre better than any other. Moving objects, pressing buttons, conecting things, launching stuff, etc. feels very natural when there's no abstract controls inbetween. On the other hand action games just seem to beg for a more traditional set up with physical buttons.

Puzzle games need a lot of thinking or else it's boring or not fun. Lots of thinking is what action games need too for programming but puzzle level design should be entertaining too.

You can always make something short and sweet that ends before getting repetitive, just crank that dificulty curve into a steep incline and be done with the whole thing in 15 or less levels.
Helltaker is a great example of how you can get away with just 10 sokoban levels if you drench the game in style, add a good story, and finish with a nice boss battle.

I don't like system heavy games, so puzzles are good in that aspect.

I've been recommended something like Vector. Should I go for it?

(endless space shooter)

How about a space shooter with handcrafted levels (not procedural generation) and an ending? ☺

I was actually thinking of making something like Chicken Invaders at first but there's already a lot of games similar to it.
What I'm making is lovely-style endless shooter with little story (enemy/character presentations in-game) and lots of action going on. Music is also important in my opinion and I'm also creating cool ones for it.

That's also the reason why it's taking me months to build - I started over few times for new ideas.

I'm thinking of doing that. Someone recommended me Vector and it's runner game I suppose.

If you want them to be at all successful, don't try to develop two games simultaneously. You need to focus and immerse yourself in the development. I think it's naive to think otherwise. If however, you've run out of ideas or motivation for the first game, then sure put the first aside for a while and do something different.

Also regarding the $100 - I assume you are referring to Steam. There are alternatives like Itch, using your own website and promoting on social media and trying to get exposure on industry sites.

Other sites mostly have either no sales or are full with free to play games. I don't mind creating free to play games but only on Android.

A chill platformer with rpg elements would be cool to have since that's a rarity nowadays
