Since the summer sale is in full swing and I (among others) am getting a bunch of trading cards that I don't really want, I've been selling them on the market. Or trying to, since this steam guard mobile thing is wonky at best. I keep having to disable and enable steam guard for every single trade.
I'm wondering if anyone is having this stupid problem and/or has found a solution to this bs.

Maybe contact steam and ask them check it out. Sounds like your profile is fubar.. Just assume it will take a month for them to even answer.

It's not a problem with steam, and even if it was a problem on valve's end they don't support the app, so they'd just tell me to go fuck myself

AFAIK it's probably a problem with your password. SDA and Winath don't work when passwords have special characters :/

Never had any problems with WinAuth + WinAuth supports multiple games.

I have no need for WinAuth's extra features. SDA does the job well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I never experienced any issue with the Steam app or Steam Guard, to be honest.
And I don't even own one of those expensive phones, I just have a lousy low-end Samsung phone from 2 years ago...

Close the Steam app, delete its cache, and start it again.
I had a similar problem last time I changed my Google password, deleting the caches of all Google apps solved it.

Pay attention that you trigger a 7 days trade freeze period each time you add steamguard to a (new) phone.
Guess you have the same result If you keep enabling/disabling SG :/

+1 on this. You didn't say what your problem is, but if the problem is the timeout, then disabling SteamGuard is just making it worse. Just be patient, wait for that time to end, and you'll be fine.

A few days ago I had a problem - I can not confirm any trade or sale, a confirmation button is not pressed. Try clear application cache in your phone. It worked for me

They're definitly not the most expensive phones out there, but to say that eh should buy a new phone just to use the steam app is not really a fix...

I never said buy a new phone, I said these work thousand times better than crappy LG, HTC, Hawai or Lenovo. And are same or even cheaper price... I got S3 since release still works like new, only issue is that the letters on the back have fallen a month ago and the obvious batter life going down from 2 days to 1

I have not had any issues, but it did make me wish there was an option to disable confirmations for 30 minutes. Having to auth each card sale was annoying... not likely worth the $0.08 cents per card...

it's slow at times and has a habit of giving the error "blah blah blah couldn't cancel your listing blah" when you're actually trying to confirm one, but what it actually means is "forgot to feed the hamster so servers buggered and we couldn't be arsed to write in an error message for this. try again later"
but other than that, the annoyance of having to confirm every. single. one. individually. and the fact that sometimes you have to close the app and restart it to make it refresh the listings, it's fine

I don't have such problem. I firstly mass-list everything I need to, then confirm all of that with !2faok in my ASF. Works like a charm.

Personnally I won't sell my summer sales cards : I will transform them into gems.

Why ? Simply because I can't use the phone app as I have a Windows Phone and the app exists only for Android and IPhones...
Every time I want to sell a card now, it takes 2 weeks before being really available for purchase in the market, meaning that they will be available when they can't be purchased anymore. Great, isn't it ?

This phone authentification system really should not be imposed :

  • some people do not have a mobile phone (yes, it happens),
  • some people still have a regular phone and not a smartphone (yes, it happens too),
  • some people use Windows or BlackBerry or maybe even Firefox OS phones...

I won't change my phone just to be able to sell cards, especially when I read that numerous people have issues and are forced to disable steam guard to be able to put cards for sale in the market.

You should make as many badges as you can, with the cards you'll get from the discovery queues.
Crushing cards into gems is never a good return of investment...

Think about it: the cards nets 20 gems each when crushed, that'd be 200 gems for a whole set.
Now, when you craft a badge, you get an emoticon and a background, worth 100 gems each.

So, in the end, making badges is the better choice, as you'll also get some experience to level up your Steam profile.
After that, you'll simply crush the spare cards into gems, before they expire.

TL;DR

  1. Make holiday badges;
  2. Raise your Steam level;
  3. Get emoticons and backgrounds,
    • They won't expire, unlike the cards;
  4. Crush the spare cards into gems;
  5. You achieved max profits!

lol, sure. I didn't say I will transform all my summer sales cards into gems. First I try to make badges with them and yes, only spare cards will be transformed into gems while usually I was putting them on sale a few days before the end of the sales. ;-)

Holy crap, that's stupid of steam.
This steam app thing is just bullshit, why can't they just do this confirmation through e-mail? Surely, 99% of steam users have them (even my tech-unsavvy mom does)

Exactly, if you use steam then you have to have an e-mail address.
But instead they consider that everyone has an Android or an IOS phone... :-(

2 days after I wrote that Windows phone version of Steam app was missing the app is launched in the Windows store ! :-D
It looks like Steam team was watching this thread and decided to create one ASAP just for me. ;-)
No need to make gems then, let's trade or sell the extra cards. ^_^

The reason I haven't started using Steam Mobile Authenticator is that it says every time you sign into steam you'll need to check your phone steam App for a code. Does that literally mean what it says? Because that just makes things insanely inconvenient.

7 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You'll need the code every time you log into Steam, but on the desktop client, you can check a box to remember your login info.
Also, Steam Guard is completely independant from the rest of the Steam app; as long as they're linked to the same Steam account, you can use them with two different devices, for maximum security.

Not everyone has access to a shitton of money to throw away on frivolous things, you know.
I know iPhones are more pricey than galaxies but how can you expect people to afford new phones when a. their old ones aren't broken (the app is broken), b. they already spent enough on a decent phone already and c. they don't have access to mommy and daddy's money.
