That is the thing i suck at the most, and may be the reason i am not so good at the game but in all fairness i have not given it much of a chance but at some point i will get to it,i am working on my back log.

and it has microtransactions '-.- konami so greedy now

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

according to some quick searching, every item can be obtained in game for free. Will have to see if its like world of tanks unlockable or like previous MGS games unlockable.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yea they say it's all unlockable by just playing and that it's made available with microtransactions for those who don't have as much free time to unlock everything. I just don't think punishing those with less free time by charging for it is fair and I'm just against microtransactions in general. Then by seeing how Konami censors the interviews about the game, I just don't really like Konami as much as I use to.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I dont see how its punishing them. Its not a requirement to unlock them through payments. If they didnt offer it, it wouldnt change anything for those who couldnt play for the time needed to unlock said stuff. The only difference would be if they made it require a long grind to unlock something on purpose like micro transactions in freemium games. If it takes 20 complete playthroughs to unlock an item like the infinite ammo item, when its 1-3 it took 1-2 playthroughs, thats BS.

Its like taking Smash's unlock system, where you already need to complete x goals to get an unlock, but offering a quick unlock through cash. It changes nothing with or without it, its just a quick option for those with more money than time/sense.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

By charging for it makes it a punishment regardless of it being optional. Cheat codes existed in games for these situations where they want to give the customer options. Konami is now downright greedy and practice shady business ethics.

How could so many people vote "meh" is beyond me. Even if you're not a fan of the series you should appreciate, as PC gamers, that such titles (only console ones so far except MGS 1 and 2 which were released a loooooong time ago) are getting PC release. I guess a lot of bitter people here who just downvote everything to get kicks out of it, can't see any other reason.

Oh, I'm all for this getting released on Steam, no doubt about that. Would also love to see the HD remakes on steam, as well as a proper HD remake of MGS 1 (not the Twin Snakes remake with it's hideously over-the-top cutscenes and goofed up voice acting please!) . And throw in working versions of the original 2 MSX Metal Gears, since MGS1 is very much a sequel to those.

But I wouldn't pre-order them, nope.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

meh because it's a preorder and i'm also not interested. never played a mgs before (same with halo and other big titles).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Like the others, I'm generally against pre-orders. While its nice that MGS V is coming to PC, I'm not nearly as enthusiastic as I might have been once upon a time. Its nice that fans won't have to buy a Juan/PS4 to continue the series, but MGS IV left me rather nonplus on the series. The length and frequency of the cutscenes was completely absurd. The ending cutscene was 71 minutes, and there were a number of times where you would play for a minute and than have 5 minutes of cutscenes.

Comment has been collapsed.

There is one huge drawback to this, at least for me.
Before Phantom Pain, I should really play Ground Zeroes.
Yet before Ground Zeroes, I really should play Peace Walker, which isn't even on the PC, and even if I emulated PW it means I would need to adjust to the wonky emulated controls, any emulating visual/audio hiccups, and the downgrade in engine (giving it's from a portable platform).

I just can't NOT play the games in sequence when the previous titles introduce important characters. It's hard to have a moment of emotional impact when a character you don't know or care about makes an entrance / fights alongside / fights against you / dies. Maaaajor drawback of having the titles strewn across different consoles, with PC only getting patchy access to them.

Permalink

You forgot about MGS3.
By the way, Peace Walker emulates better than I expected. You only have to fiddle a bit with settings.

Permalink

I'd say MGS 3 is more central to the series than PW. You could just read a wiki page or youtube for PW, but you'll definitely want to play MGS 3 if you haven't

Yeah, the boss fights are pretty cool, too. You can fake your death, trick a boss to make him think that you are his best friend, kill another boss way before having to fight him, and you can even kill that same boss by waiting a week.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Gah! You're right.
I kind of forgot that one seeing as I personally managed to play it, aheh~

I mean it's not like MGS3 is the early origin story of Snake and shows his first love interest or anything. NOTHING IMPORTANT TO SEE HERE.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

honestly if you played 3, and know the general things that happen in between 3 and Ground Zeroes, you're pretty much up to speed on the story. I'd be surprised if any of those characters beyond Kaz and Ocelot make it into Phantom Pain.

Peace Walker is a pretty good game in its own right though, still well worth playing

What do you mean by just another 60€ game?

i mean that most AAA titles are priced like this (at least in german/euro store). how is MGS any different?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So it makes it acceptable?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

if the quality is good - yes, sure. games like this cost way more than most movies you see in the cinema. it's obvious they have to cost some money. we could argue whether 50 or 60€ is the more reasonable price. but if you think no game should cost more than 20€ (it sounds a bit like that), then i simply disagree. :)

also, we are members of steamgifts, which contains a trading section. so we know how to get games a little cheaper anyway. in this case, you will have no problem getting a nvidia promo code for 25-30€. nonetheless i think if MGS is as good as promised, it's easily worth the standard price.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It is just a strange thing to think about "it costs 60 euros like many other AAA games so I don't see a problem there". Imagine if few publishers got together and decided to jack up their prices to around 100 euros. Would that be fine as well, cause we now have a bunch of games priced at ~100 so no big deal.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

you misunderstand me. it was more like "nobody complains about the other AAA titles with the same cost, so why about this one now?" as if this one is worth less than your typical AAA game...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Why not about this one now?

This is exactly the type of discouraging attitude that got us where we are now. High priced base games followed by quadruple worth of dlc's, remastering same product but in different engine and charging for it again, more than half of the content locked behind season passes and so on....

Also, different expenses of living and whatnot, so 60 euros of work might take a week in one country while someone can earn that much in less than a day.

You just need to have more understanding that not all people here are in the same position, whether it is for better or worse.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

wow, buddy, you need to calm down. ^^

i didn't say any of that. please don't put words in my mouth. well, please don't put anything in my mouth. ;)

first, i didn't say anything about additional dlc. of course most of the dlc we get these days is horrible, not worth the money, and should have been in the base game in the first place. that has nothing to do with my initial statement that 50-60€ for a good AAA title is ok in my opinion.

second, i am a big defender of regional pricing. i said that countless times, on SG and elsewhere. again - i didn't say anything about pricing in poor regions. quite the opposive, i mentioned german/euro store prices. and i even asked, if the reason the guy is upset about the price is his region, which would have been a completely different story. yet here you are and tell me i don't understand regional pricing. wtf. ^^

btw, if you think games are expensive today, you obviously didn't buy games in the 90s. an amiga game cost me 120DM back in the day, which is more like 120€ now. game prices actually got reduced over the last decades. interesting chart about this:

I am calm, if anything. Not sure where you saw hostility in my words.

What are you elaborating now is far from the initial attitude you had in the post above with "it is another 60€ game, like so many others".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

actually you accused me of having a discouraging attitude (you started talking about dlc, which were never the topic) and of having not enough understanding about how much money is worth to different people (=regional pricing). both is not true, and both sounded quite hostile, yes. ^^

What are you elaborating now is far from the initial attitude you had in the post above with "it is another 60€ game, like so many others".

nope. what i exactly said was this:

what did i miss? isn't it just another 60€ game, like so many others? is it expensive in your specific region? if so, what is your region?

i took regional differences into account in my very first post. and after that you told me i don't understand regional pricing. come on...

just to make this absolutely clear once again: i completely understand the need of regional pricing. prices should be dependant on average wages, if possible. but as far as the higher priced regions go (euro1, na...), i am absolutely fine with 50-60€ for a game that possibly costs hundred of millions in development. that is what i was saying, and nothing else.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Can you point me where have I exactly told you that "you don't understand regional pricing"? This is the second time you've said it. What are you reading and what are you reading into might be two different things.

Regardless, what I find acceptable for a price might not resonate with others since not all people have the same concept of value, especially in this matter.

you can of course try to tell me now, that you meant something else. but honestly, this reads exactly like "you don't understand that in some countries money has a different value".

and yes, i can totally agree on that. we might have a different opinion about the value of games. and that's fine. all i said was that in my understanding the price is reasonable. you could have just said your opinion differs, and that would have been totally fine. instead you - as i understood it, and frankly most people would understand it - accused me of things i never said. :)

Due to exchange rate, the pricing is inflated. Konami uses the latest exchange rate (which is getting worse daily) for this game.
