This just released!
I wonder if the game is as good as the Trailer.

There's no microtransactions here. If you want the best gear, you need to earn it one battle at a time - the way my grandmother did.

😎👍

You'd be one of the very, very few individuals I've encountered who favored the (rather vague, disjointed, and cringey-cheesy) trailer(s). As with VtMB2, this was a game the majority of franchise fans I encountered ended up being rather hesitant about, due mainly because of concerns related to the trailers. Nevermind that they're calling it Dark Alliance, but it seemed a huge step down and seemingly significant departure from the style of the original (absolutely excellent) Dark Alliance games.

By no means am I saying you shouldn't be anticipating it, I'm just saying that I didn't expect the trailer to be the basis for it. Pity is, much like with VtMB2 being delayed indefinitely, it seems like concerns related to the trailer ended up being potentially validated, as veebles already poked at. :/

It's a real pity, as I'd love to see a modern co-op D&D game that is even half as compelling as Icewind Dale or the Dark Alliance games were.

..I'd ALSO like for Sword Coast Legends to actually finally run properly for me. Honestly, other'n the amazingly compelling-looking BG3, it feels like D&D games've been letting me down for a while now. :S It's definitely been a far cry from the Gold Box and Black Isle eras, at the very least.

I enjoy cringey/cheesy humor. Trailer was excellent. Maybe I'm special ^_^

The game... Well, time will tell. Maybe the Dark Alliance tag is itching and chafing the fans in the wrong places. Causing a bloated popularity contest ala Negative Bombs. Or, it's simply a horrible release, in every way.

Just stumbled upon the release notice and had a laugh with mr trailer.. While slightly hung-over, gnawing on yesterdays leftovers 😁

I also loved the olden goldies. But I don't expect to fill that void anymore tbh. Nostalgia is hard to reproduce, no matter how good the product may be. But yes, BG3 looks promising :)

I especially relished this one:

What kind of eldritch horror from the depths of the DnD's darkest abyss could inflict such a terrible and soul-destroying abomination of a video game on innocent gamers? They didn't even offer us the meager mercy of declaring the game Early Access.

I'll wait for the devs to patch it up, or throw a 90% off sale. I'd buy it for $4 to $6.

He should have wrote that as a negative review. He'd be swimming in point rewards 😆

I guess WotC will never learn...
How many years it's been since we've seen at least a decent DnD game? 15 it seems...since NWN2 and DDO.

While WotC is the publisher, Tuque Games is who developed it. Their other game, Lifelock seems decent and has good reviews. Hopefully they'll be able to turn this around. I'm surprised WotC didn't go with Cryptic Studios to develop this.

Tuque Games belongs to WotC, and the whole development was under strict control by WotC. But regardless of that, what I meant is that WotC continuously invests into mediocre or outright bad products (like Neverwinter MMO vs the much superior, albeit slightly more aged Dungeons & Dragons Online). Daggerdale, Sword Coast Legends, now Dark Alliance... I'm not even starting on those cheap mobile stuff like Dice Adventures etc.

Not gonna judge Baldur's Gate 3 so far. It will probably be a huge commercial success but I'm not sure I'll like the game myself.

I played Neverwinter for a long time and enjoyed it but tried DDO and didn't really like it. While I did enjoy Neverwinter it didn't exactly feel like D&D some ways. One of the big things that was really awesome about it was the Foundry and I heard that it was removed awhile back, that's a real shame.

I didn't get to try Neverwinter's foundry, but I always enjoy content creation systems. Unfortunately they tend to have problems in MMOs and tend to die.

They removed Foundry? :(

They removed it from Neverwinter and Star Trek online back on April 11, 2019. I stopped playing awhile before it happened. It had bugs like most online games do with each new patch, but it was still pretty cool.

I enjoyed the trailer, but the idea of an action based D&D doesn't appeal to me.

My eyes (and attention span) have deterioated so much this past decade. Action oriented games are becoming more and more attractive. Gone are the days where I enjoyed deep text-based story telling, without frustration.

But aye, I know what u mean. I will however give Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance re-release a try when it comes to PC. I enjoyed that. Was a decent Diablo clone. On ps2 I think.

it looks like an unoriginal wash rinse repeat hack n slash with the dnd name attached.

I tried it on Game Pass yesterday. It is not a good game. Controls felt sluggish, AI was laughable and the difficulty curve was all over the place. As well as some just bizarre design choices.

Get Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance instead, assuming they don't mess up the port.

I was a DDO die hard. It is the best D&D version I've played.
Its interesting to occasionally have whacked groups such as 5 people playing as Barbarian and most of them have different builds.
Its Free to play. It has microtransactions that I never bothered with. The only money pressure is paid dungeons which can be grinded, buy individual, module, or pay a monthly all access pass. Even then theres alot of free dungeons to get characters up to level 6+ easy enough.
Early levels are very forgiving on character builds and solo. After level 3, grouping up starts pressuring. Around level 7, bad character builds start hurting. 8+ I found I needed to do research on what kind of character I wanted.
I still play every year or so for a couple weeks. Just hit that time sink wall on relearning character builds at Level 8 and decide to come back again in a couple years.
