Hello,

I want to buy a game from steam (https://store.steampowered.com/sub/987) and to give it away on steam gifts, but when I want to do the checkout I can see that I can buy it for me or to buy it for a friend, how can I buy it and keep it in my inventory in order to deliver when the give away is over ? (this was the old way that I used before)

Is any option or should I add first the winner ?

Steam changed the way the store works, you can't buy games then hold onto them in your inventory anymore. So yeah, pretty much you have to add the winner after the giveaway ends then buy the game for them.

Thank you all for you quick reactions, I know that the Steam updated the policy.......but I wanted to check with you first ...maybe there is a way to avoid this :D, so the only option is to create a quick giveaway and to be sure that the user will be online :|

You can schedule a gift to be sent anytime in the next year or so, and later you can reschedule at any time. I just don't know if you can use the same Manage gift window to choose another recipient, because if you can, you can juggle a gift as long as it is not redeemed or refused.

ok, and for example if I create a giveaway where I'm saying that the user must be online in next hour in order to send him the gift and he is not online, can I ask to support to extract another winner ? since the sale will end in next 7 hours ?

I think that you cannot ask for support since every winner has 1 week to redeem the game. The only idea that comes to me is to create a whitelist only or invite only ga and add temporary people that agreed with your terms here in the comments. But still you will risk for an unsended key.

Can you still send the gifted game to an e-mail address or does it have to be a Steam account? Was wondering if you could do a work around where OP creates a new email address, gifts the game to that email and then gives the winner the email address and password so they can then add the game to their account.

No, you now have to add the person in order to send a gift. (And hope that there isn't a price different of more than 10% between your respective stores because Steam won't allow that either.)

You can have the giveaway end before the sale does, right?

Yes, it was with happy ending ;) this new system sucks :|, they are thinking only on their profit.....but unfortunately we don't have what to do. I have money in my steam account from selling dota 2 skins so for me is ok to buy on sales from steam.

Yes, I manage to add the winner and send him the gift, the first giveaway was win by someone from Swisserland and I was unable to buy the game for him due to steam price differences, the guy from Support told me that maybe they will remove this country from Eu region because of his higher rates
