I think the bonuses are tied inside the gift. So If you buy the pre-order and store it inside your inventory, you won't get the bonuses until you redeem the PO
so yes.
Correct me if I'm wrong if this is not applied on games, I know this apply for tf2 items

You are correct, as I've been gifted a pre order for Torchlight 2, and I got the original in my inventory after activating it.

So I'll admit I haven't done a preorder in a long time. With the new practice of giving fun stuff, how does it work? If one preorders it does it (can it?) drop a tradeable item into their inventory marked 'preorder'? Would said preorder if traded and activated on say, my account, activate and then drop all the additions on too (XCOM, bioshock, hats, etc)?
