I feel like they are neglecting one game that i love, TF2, to the point where i have to boycott the company behind it, Valve. It is full of cheaters (and i mean like 10-20% cheaters) and they haven't fixed even fundamental bugs for years. Anyone with me? (I will continue to play games and use the community, but i won't buy anything on Steam until they start to show some love for TF2).

If it really bothers you, just buy your Steam games from 3rd party sites so Valve doesn't get any of the money from the purchases:

Yeah, i've been thinking of that. Too bad refund policy is probably worse than Steam's. Had my eye on GOG also, as they have prices in SEK.

If you want to go the ---- route. You could purchase from steam as a Trial, get a refund, then purchase from a 3rd party.

Please rethink this. Sure they might neglect your favorite game, but is that really a good reason to boycott and possibly single-handedly crush Steam's economy, making milions upon milions of players potentially lose their favorite gaming platform?

mp games will always have cheaters problem, ban vac is one of the most powerfull anti cheat tool but cheaters always gonna find way to cheat.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, well, VAC means Valve Allows Cheating, right? I have given Valve what they basically need to stop cheaters, but it seems they refuse to listen.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Somehow I doubt that you have singlehandedly come up with a solution to stop cheaters. oO

There will always be cheaters, same as there will always be viruses because you are adapting your anti-something to never ending stream of new hacks. As such there will always be windows of new cheaters while Valve works on a patch for VAC to account for the new type of hack. Compared to, for example, Easy AC, VAC seems to actually do rather well.

And you otherwise spend $100 a month on it? Don't think so.

Ever since TF2 went competitive and most maps just died out, people that left, and those that stick around half of those are complete noobs that can't play at all (or they are just bots certain servers use) that has been the downfall of this game and it's biggest issue, not cheaters.

And i spend years playing 2 nights a week, but slowly moving away from it, because of what i mentioned and not cheaters.

Also being seemingly not so active what you think posting here would accomplish?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, far from it, but i have spent more than 100$ total on the game. Maybe 150$ or something. Although i have sold stuff to buy other things so. Went competitive? When? Noone plays comp, only casual still. Cheaters are the currently biggest issue of the game. Play and see for yourself. Well, i don't know. Maybe to get cred so i can be whitelisted by the 78 people who blacklisted me (for alleged autojoin, which i don't use).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What did i say? I have played for many years, maybe different maps then yours.

It's dead, find me barnblitz, cactus canyon, hightower that got 15+ (decent) players, you can't.

Cred? People here win and gift games, all through steam, and you tell them to boycott steam over a game they most likely not care about and even if they did, boycott is a bit extreme?
Don't you all find it sounding a bit foolish? Most likely this will even backfire for you instead of "cred".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

(Hehe! You did post a screenshot of you using autojoin though. I remember because it was pretty friggen funny. ) But besides all that, why bother boycotting a company over one game? At the end of the day, a lot of games just run their course because people get fed up playing and move on to something else. Everyone starts blaming something on the decline of players, but it's often times just player burnout. They played for years and found another addiction. A lot of those games rarely draw in new players in large enough numbers to replace those that leave. Something else comes on the market to attract in the younger players.

If we listened to everyone's opinions on why a game store or launcher should be boycotted, we'd never get to enjoy the games we love. ;)

Actually, i have problems with the new library as well. You can't disable friends feed, so when you should launch your game it lag. This is a major flaw. Also i think it is not very functional. All the more reason to boycott.

Open the Friends & Chat window,
Click the little cogwheel (settings),
Click ''Friend List'' and set ''Sign in to friends when Steam client starts'' to OFF; and/or
Click ''Notifications'' and set those as you want them.

And I get it, you've spent a lot of cash and you really, really, really like this game, and now you're upset it's not doing what you want.
Well kid, I'm sorry to say that's the way with old games, they almost all go that way. They lose player base, and devs show it less and less love as the years fly by - it's just the way it works. Your one-man boycott is not going to accomplish anything, I'm sorry to say.
We've all been there, it hurts, but there's nothing to do, companies go on to greener pastures and we follow, whether we like to leve the old games or not.

Above was the nice part, below the not so nice.

You seem to be a person with little self reflection or understanding on how others perceive you based on your own actions (I base that on your posting pictures of using autjoin, then adamantly arguing you weren't using autojoin, I base that on you thinking this post would somehow redeem you from the former, I base that on you seeming to believe this boycott would go anywhere for you but down more blacklists). So forgive me if I'm going to assume that that kind on thinking extends to other parts of your life, and into your gaming, so perhaps many of those TF2 deaths you have suffered aren't from cheaters, but;

  1. Possibly because you just aren't as good as you think (sooo many people scream cheat when they in fact just suck), or
  2. Possibly you don't understand certain mechanics in the game as well as you think (what other players can and can't do), or
  3. Possibly when you think you have supplied ''proof'' of cheating to Steam moderators you just don't understand the process of reaching a verdict/ban for a supposed cheater as well as you think you do.
I read a very interesting article on the Overwatch system a few years ago on what you should think of before making a cheat-report, and even though it might not exactly fit the system in place today it tells a very good story of what goes in to banning a player, it's not always as straightforward as you might think to avoid false bans. I've actually been googling for it to show you but I can't bloody find it - I'll continue to look for it and edit it in here if/when I do - it's an interesting read (or was it a video... hmmmmm).

Yeah, i will try your solution.

Yeah, i did post that picture. I did not think of the fact that it says autojoin in the menu. But i did not use an autojoin though. Never have, never will. (While i admit that the plugin has an autojoin function which i do not use, i use it for filtering giveaways).

For the cheats. I think that it is pretty obvious in TF2 if someone use cheats. Try yourself and see. It's not like in CS GO where you can hide your cheating pretty well and just claim you are good. Well, that won't work in TF2, from my experience.

Lol @ their "use collections" middle-finger to us reverters. Oh well, I got the superior library so I win

People are always resistant to change. I remember when Office got redesigned about a decade ago, people were up in arms. But even though it required relearning the menu system, it is a lot more efficient.

Steam’s new library is no worse than the old one, but people get set in their ways

Comment has been collapsed.

Performance wise it's definitely worse. Also taking up like 70% for twitter-like feed (that if turned off is just whitespace) while "activity" works perfectly fine? Yeah, it's not over 'nothing'.

Did people also refuse Windows 8 cause 'resistant to change' or because it was terrible on PC's?

idk. the "invite a friend to play" uses remote play , aka the new library, so those two (so far) tasks are not able to be completed by those of us with the better library. also, maybe i'm paranoid, but i fear my categories will disappear if i upgrade.

and when they drop support for win 7 i will be stuck on that version of the client (or move to linux, which i don't want to do)

Sadly, i came in late and i still enjoyed TF2 quite a lot. Despite the changes on valve´s end having a negative effect on the game and community as a whole
still the community made some very well made maps, and gamemodes, private servers...not the cheats, my god the fucking cheats,(its amazing that most spy characters are facking backstabs) but things you dont get with any other mp games out there, so overall quite a positive experience for me
For valve, tf2 was release with a lifespan

Boycott Steam because Valve's no longer actively working on a game that had a good run ?

Nah, I've got better reasons than that. Like the fact that they can't keep their storefront algorithms fixed so now once again I'm seeing all sorts of stuff that I explicitly excluded. Or the fact that their back-end just isn't very stable so regular login-issues and such are still a thing.
Or their library redisaster. Calling it a redesign gives too much credit.

Well, i admit that the new library is not problem free. I admit it is worse than before, much worse. Another reason to boycott Steam.

TF2 is pretty old at this point, pretty sure that valve doesn't see it as worth pouring too much effort into it, specially when they have CS:GO and DOTA 2 still doing fine and probably most of their workforce focussed on HL: Alyx.
You're free to boycott them but I don't think many will follow, at least not for that reason (I heard hating the new library is all the rage now).

Gamer in LOCAL AREA improves TF2 with this one weird STEAM TRICK!

I agree with weirdfish in that if anything, your not playing TF2 but using your Steam account will send the message : need new games as he's not buying, need even less TF2 effort as he's not playing it.

Best of luck to you but I took a break from TF2 and when I came back it was so full of billions of weapons I could no longer figure out what was happening or what, if any counters were possible to anything used at all. Just too complicated.
I'm not saying Vanilla is the answer, but turning it back to a handful of hats (if you must) and the extra weapons the initial Packs added would do more to reinvigorate the game IMO. It'd definitely get me back, in any case.

you won't boycott valve. you will keep using steam, idling cards, selling items in the market, browsing the store, feeding their recommendation system, giving them clicks, info about playtime, which games you play, comments, etc.

if you really want to boycott them, stop using steam and all related sites (that means not using sg to win and activate games on their site). move to gog, epic, origin, and play there.
