Was the older Mortal Kombat Kollection (2012) better value for money than Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection (2025)?

The older game was priced at around $10, while the newer one is around $50!!!

Would you pay extra for UMK3 Wavenet which had many compromised backgrounds with missing effects to speed up the net gameplay? This is what the latest Legacy Kollection has in store.

Which one was better value for money?

Mortal Kombat Kollection
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection

Mortal Kombat Kollection is a compilation of 3 games.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is a compilation of 11 games.
In my opinion, it's still too expensive, I would like it to be somewhere around $30.

The older one is delisted and had a lot of compatibility issues. It needed some work arounds to get around the games for window service. The new one is adding a lot to the package.

Honestly for me, it is hard to justify buying anything at a premium price. With bigger development studios you can understand why they need to charge a lot. With inflation the premium prices might seem very reasonable, but there are so many good games to play for dirt cheap. And I think most people on this site probably have hundreds of unplayed games in their libraries.

I honestly believe games old like this should be sold for cents to a dollar if sold at all, and instead should go to abandonware and some documentation should have been made available so more users can mod and port the games to work in current times. I don't think a studio should keep re-releasing games like this.

Regarding the vote: Technically, the Mortal Kombat Kollection is a better value for the money because you get to experience part of the games for $10, including the best, which is MK3. However, I can see why the Legacy Kollection would appeal to some, as it has more games, it's updated to work on the new systems, and has other features like the history of the games(although I'm sure you can find like 1000 free documentaries in many places of the web, through both videos and articles.

I also don't really like this, because it takes the games out of abandonware technically and forces them to remove them from their sites to avoid DMCA's, and while abandonware is technically not right, it was made to function on new systems for free by someone and many times they provide extra features like 1080p support, bug fixes, etc. all for free. So basically what they did, is what someone did for free out of enjoyment and respect for the game, but they're charging money for it, instead of creating a new game, or expanding the MK universe, or I don't know, making some whole new game. It's their right, but I consider it leeching at this point in time to ask $50 for something that's so old.
