I like it.

EDIT: Ubisoft is the company which does what community asks. Unlike others :cough: new store page :cough:

If Ubisoft did what the community wanted, we wouldn't have Uplay at all when buying games on Steam.

Buying a game on Steam should be just that. Not require a yet another secondary, completely useless, application on top of it to run.

yeah they'll shut down an entire operation just because you want them to.

Its not like they couldnt keep their shitty DRM client running for those that want to buy through their store. Having a game, which ALREADY has a drm layer, or two in some cases, require an entirely new and extra client drm solution on top is just retarded and mucks things up.

i didn't catch what you're saying but if you're ranting about multiple drm, don't buy games which ubisoft publishes and/or developes on steam. buy them on uplay. problem solved.

let's hate valve for not letting us play portal on uplay, or on origin, or drm-free.

Agreed, I was sourly disappointed after purchasing Far Cry 3 just to learn I had to create Uplay account to play.

Is it so bad to have a Uplay account too? Or is it so hard to create one?

And i was talking about the games merely. They do the changes community wants and i am talking with the examples of The Settlers, Anno and TMQ

No its not hard to make an account, its just an entire extra step and layer to go through and troubleshoot for no reason other then Uplay wanted to invade your PC and toss advertisements down your throat.
If people want to use Uplay or Origin or Capsale or any of the other DRM clients, then power to them, but needing to run more than a single DRM solution, much less an entire 2nd client to play a game is retarded. I shouldnt have to troubleshoot a problem with a game that requires Steam -> secuRom -> Uplay. It should just be Steam, or SecuRom or Uplay or w/e single DRM solution the publisher wants to use.

how about steamworks games you buy on other platforms. steam does the same thing for them

That's annoying too but not quite the same thing. I've yet to come across a title that requires Steam, available off Steam, unless it specifically needs Steamworks for it's multiplayer. Not a fan of that either but at least it's understandable why it's there.

Uplay on the other hand is added to everthing they put out. Even singleplayer games for no reason other than them being able to do so.

ive yet to buy or use anything that requires Uplay, could I get a quick comment on why this is a good thing?

Will it make it easier to play games like FC3 through steam rather than through Uplay?

It just takes away a step I imagine. I have a few games that require uPlay on Steam, and all it does is start uPlay when I start the game. IE Trials Fusion. I go into Steam, start the game, it opens uPlay and then the game starts. I have uPlay set to auto login, so I dont have to do anything. It just opens another program. It already is easy.

+1 same here, im yet to use Uplay, Uplay is big on making games like Assassins Creed and Far Cry which take a hella long time to beat.... time I don't have. So until summer comes i'm probably not going to have Uplay.

No. You'll still need uPlay for the games that require it.

It seems that when you start a game through steam, Uplay will automatically start the game.

I honestly refuse to buy anything that requires RDM's to play it unless it's steam. Obviously. Because I love lord gaben. But yeah, Child of Light? Never gonna play it.

Funny. You do have GTA IV that have SecuROM/GFWL and install limit and Medal Of Honor/Dead Space 2/Mass Effect 2 that use installation limit :))

GTA IV has not install limit, it was removed long time ago. Not sure about the other games.

Not sure origin games have installation limits

but secuROM is retarded and outdated. most of the games with that bullshit have it patched for a higher cap... and never worked against piracy (actually non of this DRM methods work agains piracy... specially those developed by Ubi, hell, people had to use the pirated version of some of their games to be able to play them)...

Farcry 3 + Blood Dragon + From Dust. Uplay cracked. Games wont run with uplay's client. Total shit show.

Comment has been collapsed.

Its wonderful that you love being pedantic about it, but you know he meant a secondary client on top of steam's client. For example, Steam + Uplay, or Steam + Origin. Though, GFWL is also a PITA, along with instal limits and so on, but are much harder to determine than requirements for a 2nd drm client.

Unless UPlay does what Origin does, allowing same code to be used on both clients, it will be useless as UPlay is now...

you can use origin codes in steam?

The other way around. If you have Steam keys for old EA games or have old EA games on Steam you can ask support to add the game to your Origin account.

Since I'm a penguin (Linux user) what I would like to see it the ability to run the Uplay client with Wine, I have never been able to get it to work. The Origin client at least works with Wine. Of course the best option would be a Linux port of their clients.

Hmm, only care about it if I can move few games from Uplay to Steam. Sounds like it does it, so yatta.

If it will turn out to not do that, :(

Cant way for Uplay to get hacked and have the details of a few hundred thousand steam accounts get out in the wild. This is the same team that fucked up and managed to have the DRM client provide their entire catalog for free just by changing the URL in the client. Bunch of bloody idiots.

I don't know what's so good about it. After the past security incidents with Uplay, I don't trust Uplay to keep my Steam (and Origin) credentials.

UDon'tPlay? Not for me, I'll stick with Steam, Desura and Gog, 3 stores/sale platforms is enough.

You need those keys to play them because of the Uplay DRM. Eventually you'll be asked for those the first time the games are launched.

It'd be cool if the 2 UPlay games I have would now show up in Steam automatically. And if I could buy AC4 Season Pass from Steam...but alas this will never happen.
