Yes, I know, suggestions go into the support section, but this is just to see the community's take on it, really. You guys seem to love scrutinizing these sort of things anyway, so I guess it'll work out.

Basically, you know all those suggestions about being able to mark bundle games as tradable copies to get full contributor values? Yes, I know it doesn't work, this suggestion is sort of a reverse of that idea. I'm suggesting the ability to mark bundle games as bundle keys, so that one DOESN'T get contributor value. Let me address a few common issues before the rage begins:

Why?

Simply put, some users don't look too kindly on breaking up bundles to give away (myself being one of them, to a degree) and certain groups explicitly forbid their members to do so. But I buy as many indie bundles as the next guy, often just for one or two of the games, and usually have leftover keys which I will never get round to using, which leads me to the second question.

Why not just give it away on the forums/chat?

I have thus far, but as anyone who has tried to ninja keys would attest, the keys mostly go to the fastest people (ninjas) and possibly even automated scripts (I see this being mentioned often, but I'm not sure personally if it is even possible, or some sort of old inside joke.). Make no mistake, I'm not condemning the use of the forums/chat to give away keys, but being able to give them away via random selection is a nice alternative, and is certainly much more convenient than using random.org.

People will mis-click the option and complain about it later

We could explicitly label the button, but let's be realistic, we could replace the button with an icon of beelzebub and replace button text with "FORFIT SOUL", but there are still people who would click on it. There are always people who don't read these things (even now, I bet some of you have spaced out. Quick! Fortix!). So there really isn't much we can do there. And finally, and most importantly...

Why is this worth the trouble?

This is precisely why I posted this here first. I think it is a pretty rad feature, personally.
But what do YOU think? Yay? Nay? Awesome? Pretentious? Let me know!

No one would press the button and we already have the contributor value solution and you can report giveaways of bundle games when the ToS of the bundle forbids it.

Contrib value solution : yeah, 'cause that works out so well. A third of my contributor value is bundle games.
No one would press it : I would.
Reporting bundle key giveaways : afaik, one isn't allowed to give out IndieRoyale keys. Nobody reported me when I still did so (e.g. my Oil Rush giveaway).

I would also press the button but 90% of these bundlers wouldn't do it because many of them just give them away for the value and if there wouldn't be so many bundle giveaways SteamGifts would be empty.

Those who give out bundle keys without pressing that button should be banned :3

Poor poor support ...

The bundle "solution" was done because you couldn't keep track of everyone. This would be crazy work for support. They would have to check every giveaway with-value-bundle without exception.

Silly me for not seeing. But my point stands. If this were to be implemented, support would crumble.

This isn't the purpose of the button, it's just an alternative for those who selectively refuse to accept that value. I believe with enough time, pressing the button could be the norm, and the pressure to not deviate from the norm will cause people to press the button all the time.

So basically you are suggesting that every game should be treated as a giftable copy (with full contributor value) unless you explicitly check a box that devalues what you are giving away?

Yeah, right, chances of people ticking that checkbox are ... very slim ;)

I think he meant keep the current bundle contributor thing, and add an option for that.

No, the current rules stay as is, the button is only for people who explicitly DON'T want contributor value.

I don't see the point in doing so.

If there are groups that forbid you to give away free stuff - quit the group or tell the admins it's a stupid rule and they should reconsider it.
I can't think of any examples where a contributor would check this box other than that and I can't find more examples in your post.

I understand what you mean, but it's just a personal decision for some, I guess. I think I see my profile as some sort of achievement list, and don't really want to 'cheat' to gain 'achievements' :P Hahaha! This is just a suggestion from someone who happened to have some time on his hands, but thanks for the opinion!

Adding the contributor value has become a double-edged sword (I mean the feature of the contributor value - it's not always been there, just as an info for those that aren't a part of this great community for so long).

I think it's great so you can make giveaways as a sort of "thank you" for people who contribute to the site and keep it running.
On the other side people try to "cheat" the system by giving away stuff they obtained for free.
Now, giving away something you got for free is fine in my book, but if in the process you snatch it away from someone else (as with a limited key giveaway cough cough recent Dota cough Summer Seal cough facebook promotions cough - I should have a doctor check out this weird coughing) then it's rather obvious that you are not trying to contribute, but rather you're trying to "cheat" the system - you do it for your personal gain, instead of generosity.

I agree, a lot of complications have arisen from the contributor value system. Anyway, it has already been implemented, so the most we can do is to try tweaking it to make it more conducive to the purpose of this site.

"to mark bundle games* as bundle keys, so that one DOESN'T get contributor value."

HAHAHAHAHAHAH. Oh my sweet summer child ... who would actually do that that on purpose?

Now that you can, why not make a giveaway for your extra bundle keys if you dislike ninjas?

Ask the winner to click a key-giveaway button too if it's the case...

I don't really see the need for that, since clicking the button as a giver actually 'penalizes' you, there's no way to exploit that for gain. Unless you mean putting a key giveaway button on regular giveaways to indicate that the game received is a bundle game. In that instance, it has been explained many times why it will not work.
