Hello everyone!

I was giving away a key for one of the games from the latest Humble Choice and the winner responded saying that the key had already been activated.
But the day before that, I activated games from the same bundle and everything was fine, gave two of the games to people I know and everything was fine, so how is that possible and is there any explanation to that?

Update: sorry, that was just a mistake on my side, accidentally sent the wrong key and it all got mixed up. Thank you to everyone for your help!

I would ask for a screenshot from Steam showing the steam key was already redeemed message. This will be proof that the key was already used.

I doubt Humble gave you used keys especially if nobody else has access to your account. There might be a mistake by the winner such as pasting wrong key or including an extra space.

I checked the key myself, it has been used. The guy also marked the game as received, but he doesn't have the game on his account, which I guess is illegal according to the rules of SG.

The person may not understand the SG rules.

If you suspect foul play, check the person's win history to see if other wins were marked as Won and had comments about used keys.

Well, he contacted me personally on Steam, so I doubt that there will be comments about it.

maybe the "used" giveaway were deleted so it could be hard do find evidence

Um ... This cannot be proof, since nothing prevents him from activating the key on another account.

That's true. I thought about that after reading some of the comments.

Or they could've sold it too.

If it is from a humble choice you should check the corresponding sg thread if others reported about already used keys. Also you can try to ask Humble support for a replacement.

The thread doesn't have anything like this, so I'm not sure.

I think they will refuse, because as far as I understand, in their opinion, distribution of keys on this site = trade in keys.
This is a strange logic, but it is true.

You don't need to tell HB that the key was used on this site. Just say you gave the key to a friend and it said it was used. They should simply give you a new key and revoke the old one.

You might also be able to contact steam to ask them when the specific key was activated, it's not guaranteed they will but at least worth a try. That way you can contact Humble is the key has been activated before the sell date or open a request received feedback ticket if the key has been actived shortly after you send the key to the winner.

Also note they will definitely not tell you on which account it has been activated.

I have had to contact Steam support about used keys at least 3 times. From my experience, they always give that information

Could I ask you where I can do that?

https://help.steampowered.com/ > Purchases > I need help with a Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code > My Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code is damaged
That's what I used last time. Even if it's not a Gift Card, they will provide you the date and time of activation. You don't need to join a scan.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I've solved the problem aready (it was my mistake including 2 same keys in 2 different giveaways)

Maybe you should update the OP so that people stop responding. It's good that you solved the problem.

Sure, didn't think about that. Thank you, I updated the OP!

Ask support, when you did nothing wrong and it was a "new" recently acquired key.. maybe the winner has a history of "already-activated" keys and the other giveaways got deleted... support can help you maybe... but don*t expect a fast answer :-p

Well, I've contacted SG support, waiting for the reply.

You can contact Steam support, and if you are convincing, they will tell you the date and time of activation of the specified key (do not try to find out the account on which it was activated, you will still be refused. I advise you to say that you were sold the wrong key and this information you need to support the store)
In addition, I would ask the winner to write that he agrees to remove the giveaway and just delete it. This would be a great solution (if you don't care about the contribution).

Oh my god, it's just my stupidity and making giveaways at 3 am. I didn't notice that I used the same key in 2 giveaways, and everything got confused from there on. Both games had the same key, but the "incorrect" giveaway winner redeemed it first and then it just didn't work for the other guy. My mistake, false alarm.

I guess, the only guaranteed way to avoid making mistakes like this is to avoid making GAs altogether - we're all just human, after all.
