I mean, is there any new tech/processors/gpu announced in 6 months time that I should wait, or can I safely spend this now that I won't have any regrets on buying this

EDIT: I need it for 4 year studies and I got the money sponsored anyways so I'm thinking of getting the best out of it

EDIT 2: Tnx for all the feedback, I may have been grumpy earlier but I appreciate all your tips and comments.

I'm just gonna open this thread for 1-3 hours and then close it later

One thing you should know about buying/building a computer: There will always be something newer than what you just bought, a better deal, etc. six months to a year down the line. Always. So, you can't worry too much about that. Now, making something a bit future-proof for your particular needs? That does need to be thought about heavily.

my take on your question.

1 you should never ever buy a laptop unless it is an actual necessity to have a laptop. for example you travel a lot or... well that's the only reason to have a gaming laptop.

  1. you will get more bang for your buck if you buy a PC. a 2000 dollar laptop? well you can buy a PC almost twice as powerful for that same price. and you can add a better monitor or improve the video card later on. with laptops.. well you're pretty much stuck with what you buy. so once again please don't buy a laptop unless you travel other than that the stupid excuse. oh I can play from anywhere in the house. trust me as a gamer you want to be as comfortable as possible and playing on your bed isn't the best thing unless you have a kick ass rig made for handicaped gamers. instead of buying shit laptops to play from anywhere buy an awesome chair with the money you'll save from not buying a laptop.

For that much money you should get a Desktop gaming rig and a smaller screen Laptop .. 17" isn't what you wanna carry around all the time anyway. This way you'll have the best possible thing for all your needs and it can all easily fit under the budget you were allowing yourself to use on that laptop.

If you want the best go Clevo/Sager

Its pretty much considered top of the line for gaming laptops, also no point in waiting unless you don't need it now.

Here is one for 2 grand

I would just get a haswell laptop with integrated graphics from dell or sony when it gets released, intel just announced its going to be very efficient. Battery life for gaming laptops is 2 hours and is not very portable since you use a discrete gpu. With the 1,500 usd extra id use it to pay student loans

IMO, wait a bit. There are ultrabooks coming with 640M and 660M, even some with AMD graphics, they will be expensive, but will be able to game and carry you through university all day.

Well, Haswell is going to be released soon... And I'm absolutely sure that Nvidia is going to release their 800- series or AMD releasing not jut renames... I'd suggest getting something like a refurbished 500 laptop and spend the rest on a desktop gaming rig.
