All you need is the original game, not the episodes. Mostly bug fixes and graphical update only.

It is a mod but is apparently sponsored by Nvidia for some reason. And Valve is listed as one of the developers.

Sorry for clickbait. Actually no, I'm not. Thank Reddit.

If you want a greater graphic overhaul there's the Cinematic mod. Requires all the Half Life 2 episodes though.

honestly not much that "improvement" in the update. I'd like to see HL2 totally remade in UE4, Unity5 or in Valve's Source 2. that would be awesome "update"

I despise NVIDIA for their business descisions, so i think i will pass on this one.
Even though Half-Life 2 is one of my favourites. I'll just replay the original game.

The low poly models could do with some updating too... Kinda had to look in the corner a few times to see if I was looking at original or updated, so... :)

Saw the update on RPS and it got me wondering, why is HL2 considered so great? What did it do that no other game did before, I get HL1 it introduced narrative to the FPS. But 2, I only saw the physics stuff. Can someone enlighten me.

Found this interesting video a while ago. Explains one reason it's considered well made.
Lots of other interesting game design stuff on his channel too.

Yea saw the video a while ago. The natural no hand holding tutorial is very well made.

So, does it updates even EP1/2? Do we have any comparison screenshots (vanilla/this/cinematic mod)? I'm confused.

edit: I've missed that there is comparison video on store page.

Not for episodes, bunch of updated lightning/shadows, not that impressive.

I just started re-playing it so this will be a nice addition to an already great game.
Still pretty confusing why this game was updated like this, but whatever.

Half-Life 3 confirmed? NO!

I wonder if this will fix the many issues I have been having playing the entirety of the series, as the game ends up freezing and crashing on my systems. I really wanted to finish the episodes, but playing the first three quarters of ep.1 does not appeal to me a third time...

I was planning to get this, then found out about the CM and decided to give the latter a go. Installing it now (but it took a while to download and unpack), looking forward to see the difference :)
