The wired you can plug directly into the pc. The wireless one needs a receiver which is sold seperately.

this is not true. mine came with a receiver.
there also is no lag with using a wireless.
i have a wireless Xbox controller, & it plays effortlessly.
go for wireless. less wires hanging around.
ive never had any issues with mine.

I have never seen a receiver with a 360 wireless controller anyways, you must have got some special bundle or something. But you will generally not receive a receiver with the default wireless controller, which is worth noting for the OP.

mine came with one. i didnt buy something extra to receive it. i bought it only a year ago & there was no special bundle involved.
if your check the Amazon pictures, it clearly shows that they come with a Receiver when you buy the Wireless 360 PC controller. they have several pictures that show this. this is where i bought my controller.

Wired, why worry about the batteries and more input lag? I don;t know about wireless, all that wired one needs is a driver
Edit: damn slow internet.

the "input lag" is so small nowadays you will hardly ever notice it unless you are some sort of rainman or robot

Yup, you are right, sry, I had educated myself. The difference is about 1/2FPS between wired and wireless.

It is actually fascinating to me how far wireless has come. I used to play ps2 games with wireless controllers and it was awful how slow the reaction was so I didn't understand why ps3 or 360 had mostly wireless or why some gamers would use wireless mice/keyboards to play until I actually tried it myself and saw no difference!

I was gonna correct the "it's awesome" part, but then I found so much more D:

I have a wired one, Xbox 360 official, and it's plug and play (regular USB, no drivers needed). I'm using it right now to play Bit.Trip Runner, and it works perfect.
Wireless controllers are more expensive, and you will need to recharge them, so don't buy them. You will play in front of the PC, so who cares about cords?

I had the same question around 6 months ago. What stopped me from buying wireless is that you had to buy a separate adapter and lots of other crap for it and I couldn't be bothered with that. I just plug my controller in the front USB-port and the cable never gets in the way so I'm happy.

I'd get wired not having to deal with charging, the wireless 360 controller for PC comes with a usb adapter unlike the one mainly just for the console.

I don't understand why everybody goes with the wired X360 controller. I've bought my Wireless 360 with PC adapter a year ago, and it works great ever since. There is absolutly no noticable diffrence in latency. The only thing that might bug u is that you have to change the batteries once in a while. And as for the controller weight, I think it's better when a couple of batteris just ballance the handling of that device in your hands.

I'm using it for PC gaming. I don't own an xbox...
Whats the best option?
Wireless or Wired?
Is the wired controller just a usb plugin? Or do I have to buy a seperate 360 to usb adapter?
Does wireless have a usb adapter?
