So recently I've been having issues with the Steam store. It seems that while I remain logged into the Steam community (profiles, etc.) perpetually, my login to the store keeps expiring after as few as three clicks just browsing titles on the site. This forces me to have to re-authenticate many times if I'm doing a lot of looking around.

Anyone else experience this? It started happening to me about 1-2 weeks ago.

Running Chrome on Win10-x64. I've tried completely emptying my browser cache of all data, but that doesn't solve the problem.

Update:

It appear the add-on script "SteamGifts Steam Ratings" is the culprit, at least in the case of myself and Heisenbear. I turned it off and have remained logged into the store through Chrome continuously for ~36 hours. Hopefully this is a fix for others as well!

Quick update.

Microsoft Edge has kept my session info with the store for going on four days now. It's even persisted through several computer restarts.

With Chrome I decided to try an experiment. I made sure I was NOT logged into the Steam store on my phone (it'll still produce authentication codes without being logged in). Then I logged into the store with Chrome. The session has persisted for about 15 minutes now, including logging off and logging back into Win10.

I suspect part of the problem may be that whatever on the server is tracking which devices are logged into the store that this is somehow being interpreted by Chrome to expire quickly if multiple devices are logged in. Particularly if it's the same device that is your authenticator.

Just a guess, but this is the most stable Chrome login I've had for weeks.

AAAAND... I just lost the Chrome session. Still 30 minutes was a lot better than anything else I've done for awhile.

I might just switch to using Edge for Steam store stuff. Enhanced Steam is coming out with an Edge add-on in the near future.

If one browser works and another browser doesn't that's hard evidence that it has nothing to do with Steam and all to do with your personal browser setup.

apparently you do not know how cookies work, they are tailored for specific browsers.. when you first hit any website you transfer your metdata tag which has what browser you are using, then valves servers tailor a cookie specific to you and your browser. therefore there lies a problem in either A: the way that valve distributes the cookies has changed or B: the way that chrome stores the cookie has changed.. in either rate that does not exclude the possibility that this issue lies with valve. i figured for someone who claimed to have knowledge in http headers, you would of known this.

Who said anything about cookies being cross-browser? He said Edge wasn't losing sessions and Chrome was. Have fun lacking reading comprehension.

uh, hello, i just gave you an example in which it could possibly be steam, and you completely disregard that and just spout nonsense trying to pawn yourself off as if you have more knowledge then everyone else. talk about a reading comprehension problem.

Are you using the 'Steamgifts Steam Ratings' script?
I deactivated it and I'm still logged in after 3 days.
But it kinda sucks too, because I love that script :)

I am, and I just turned it off. Will experiment and see if it makes a difference. Your experience is encouraging!

Good luck then!
Others that I've told this also had no logouts thus far, but I don't want to oversell it.
I know how it is to have your hopes crushed :)

Wow this really looks like the solution! I've been logged in via Chrome for over 12 hours and still haven't been kicked from the store.

Now the question is has anyone gotten in contact with the author of the script to inform them? It looks like the last time it was updated was beginning of June. Coincidentally, around the time the issue started for me. :)

Awesome, that's really good news!
Yes, someone has informed the author of that script, but he still doesn't know why it causes these issues for some people.
I accidentally stumbled upon this post.
That post was the reason I even tried disabling that script in the first place :)

edit/additionally: if you find that the other script gets a fix or a way to fix it with config change pls lmk =) i'd happily switch back, but only if its corrected. lol

I don't know what the hell is going on but this is very annoying. I get logged out very often too. For example I check every game from a bundle in a short time and I have to log back in twice.

This happened to me for weeks last Nov/Dec in Chrome on Win 7, but it has happened sporatically over the past year on Chrome for Android, usually for periods of a couple days.

Sometimes refreshing the page would change my status to logged-in, sometimes logging in would just leave me not logged in even though it appeared to work.

The problem always has resolved itself and I haven't experienced the it in a few weeks.

Do you open the Steam store on multiple PCs? Do you log into your account using multiple browsers? Steam logs me out if I have more than one session active at the same time. So each time I switch PCs (desktop to laptop, for example), I have to shut the browser down in order to avoid being logged out. I noticed that simply leaving the browser open on the first PC can prevent your session from being stored on the second one.

Chrome, Win7.

Not usually, but in this case I had taken to being logged in on both Chrome on my PC and with the Steam app on my Android phone. And since the phone is also my Steam authentication I was wondering if that was causing something to signal Chrome that my session there should end.

However my test above showed that I still got logged out on Chrome in ~30 minutes even when it was the only store login I had running.

i had one lucky 5hr run with chrome beta, i felt beta was a hair better at staying connected, but still decided to revert back to stable just in case it gets the fix first (since i have reported this issue to both google and valve)

for me it is even if im actively clicking around in a session, do not have to even tab away from the tab. no longer on multiple browsers, i assumed that could be the issue, just consistently trying the same chrome stable (even tried beta too).

ive even gone as far as deactivating all authorized devices and only reactivating the authenticator and this browser, disabled all extensions, cleared cache and cookies internally and externally. all those in various different orders as well. only thing i am left with is abandoning chrome really =(

maybe you could extend the life of the cookie using 'Cookie Manager +' addon in Firefox.

It happens a lot to me, but if I refresh the page a bit, it usually logs me back.

Heisenbear shared his solution and it also worked for me. Simply turning off the "SteamGifts Steam Ratings" script fixed the problem.

I don't even have that script. Maybe it's Enhanced Steam causing the issue for me.

Doesn't happen as often for me, but it requires to log in almost daily. Few months ago the session persisted for few weeks.

So I got fed up by constantly reaching for my phone to log in and switched to the unofficial PC version of Steam Authenticator. I use a KeePass plug-in, but there are also some standalone apps (didn't try these): WinAuth and Steam Desktop Authenticator.
