They're simply thanking the creator of the giveaway for the chance at winning a game.

Some people like to show appreciation for the chance to win. People spend their hard earned money to buy these games to give to random strangers after all.

People are happy to get the chance to win a game.

Some people do it, because they are really thankful, others think they get a better chance in winning (which is not true), others do it for their entry/comment ratio. Now choose your reason to thank the creator.

It's this thing called gratitude

There's people that, and I know this sounds crazy, but it's true! There's people that actually think, imagine this, they THINK that a guy who gives away games to unknown people should receive some kind of praise and gratitude. EVEN if they aren't the winners.

Insane, isn't it?

Show your gratitude by giving back to the community, not by spamming thanks. 7 wins and 0 giveaways, way to go.

I take the babies along with the candy. You can sell them on the black market and buy more candies with the money.

Anyone saying that "Because they are nice, caring, and thankful people!" just needs to... Really think twice. "Thanks" is possibly the most spammed comment ever on this site, and it means literally nothing, since we nowadays have these "auto-thanks" shit, and all that. If someone takes their time to actually write something that means something, then you could say, that they very much appreciate the chance of winning, but just "thanks" - it's just spam, that's how I see it. Most of it is atleast, maybe not all, but most.

still posting even generic "Thanks!" is much nicer than saying nothing at all and just spamming entries not bothering with GA creator at all.

"Thanks" may mean "literally nothing" to you, but to me (the person writing it) it's important. If it wasn't important to me, I wouldn't bother.

People think they should, so they do. Basic rule of being polite: do things other people want you to do.

just being polite. Someone invest his real-life money just to make a GiveAway so you could win a game for free - the least you can do is thank him/her for doing so.

You'll see a lot of people complain about 'thanks spam'. I think people need to loosen up a bit. I mean, it could easily be said that people who don't say thanks when entering a giveaway are just lazy and ungrateful. That sounds just as silly as saying anyone who says thanks is spamming. My personal opinion is say thanks if you want, enter without comment if you want. Plain and simple. As long it is not a private giveaway with rules, it doesn't much matter. Life is too short to get your feathers ruffled because people may or may not be leaving comments (most of which you'll never see) on giveaways.

Sometime I write a thanks, sometimes I don't. Depends if I'n in a hurry, how I feel at the moment or how much I rally want the game being offered. But I will usually go back and add a thank you message if I win anything. And personally, even though it makes a lot of scrolling to see if there are actual questions, I'm always happy to see people show their gratitude on my giveaways.

I haven´t sad thx in the giveaway I won today, but as the key arrived I wrote back with a great thanks =)

Meaningless 'thanks' spamage to full the database...
Sure people are grateful for the giveaway, but it's really just a heartless automated gesture, completely ignored by all anyways.

if you're so greatful for a GA spending a fucking 3 seconds, even to write a generic thanks shouldn't be a problem.

This guy has about 3,5k entries.... I'm sure he's written the same amount of different, original, witty, humourus and funny "thank you" notes for each and every one of them. Because it's the right thing to do.

I personally don't see the need to type an emotionless "Thanks!" onto every giveaway you enter. Because I'm really don't feel grateful until I actually receive something, which sounds kinda awful, but yeah... I think you show more appreciation by giving back to the community(Something I NEED to do sometime...I'll do it!), than to just type "Thanks!". Because basically every single message on a giveaway is just "Thanks!", and if you really were appreciative of having the chance to win a game, then you would at least write a complete sentence or more to express that. But in all reality, who would want to spend the time to come up with a heartfelt message for every single entry they make? Not many.

When I make giveways I ask commenters to talk about a hobby.
Can get some fun responses, and more interesting comments than 'thnxbai'. :)

What else would you use the comments section for? lol

But, really. What is so wrong with being thankful for the generosity of an individual? If you can't even do that, in my humble opinion, you don't deserve a free game.

Permalink

Well yes, that really is the only use for the comments section. I guess I didn't put it across that I feel that if people are going to use it to thank someone, they should actually give a heartfelt thank you message, instead of the "Thanks!" that everyone else posts. For your second point, I am thankful that someone is being generous, but until that generosity actually affects me directly, I don't feel that it is necessary to give type a message to them to thank them. The fact that I'm just being lazy also has part in this, but I AM thankful for their generosity, I just don't type it out.

I don't understand why this discussion always needs to be an argument. The people who don't leave comments are always complaining about the "spam" and people who do leave comments complain about the "ingrates".

Why does anyone care? Want to leave a comment? Great! Don't want to? Awesome!

Not everything has to be a fight or argument. To each his own and all that...

Because they are somewhat lazy and just copy paste that one word. The real lazy ones don't even write anything! Hope you are now enlightened. Also, get off my lawn! You have 20 seconds to comply...
