I am curious if anyone out there has a preference for certain game titles or genres on certain gaming platforms?

I myself prefer playing sports (madden / nba2k / etc) on my PS4 and would not remotely consider purchasing them for my gaming rig despite its ability to outperform a PS4 or XBONE.

What say you?

I don't care about platform, as long as the controls are appropriate. I have a gamepad, so any console game will play as well on my PC as they would on a console.

What about screen size? Don't most people have a bigger TV in the living room than they have a computer monitor?

idk about googlecast specifically, but i use roku3 casting/streaming features on light-gpu games. i would think googlecast can do the same too though.

I don't have enough rooms to have a dedicated living room ;) My TV is a little bit bigger than my computer monitor, but the image quality is worse.

When i find a bigger apartment I'll probably get myself a steamlink (and a bigger TV).

lol, where i sit my screen sits directly below my tv that is further off in the distance.. from this distance though they both look identical in size (17in monitor 1.5ft in front of me, or 40in tv ~9ft in front of me) -- i only cast so the kids can sit on the couch and watch me play, so idc if its a little glitchy or has delays. i still play off my monitor :D

Yes, but as d3m4n said you can just connect your PC to TV - for me a long (15m) HDMI cable and wireless XBOX controller does the trick.

If a game has good controller support than I use that setup, otherwise (or if it is an FPS) monitor, keyboard and mouse.

I recently got 19" 1366x763 screen and everyone said I'm crazy for not going up to 1080p (had 20" 1680x1050 before) but I find this lower native resolution goes hand to hand with my GTX950, I'm playing everything at very high / ultra. EVERYTHING except Shadow of Mordor which is like crazy demanding for Ultra.

Also don't have TV because I don't like watching TV.

I'd say console are better for racing/sport game but i guess you can just use a ps4/xbox one controller on your pc so i don't really think console have any advantage over pc, at least not regarding game genre

I always thought the Halo folks (and now COD folks) were nuts for playing an FPS with a controller. Keyboard and Mouse all day everyday for FPS - to me any other way is unthinkable!

The only reason I sometimes play on consoles is that some games are not available on PC.
I don't think I have a favourite genre, I play pretty much anything.

The only reason I would turn on a console is for 3d platform games and some decent exclusives.

I loved me some original guitar hero and rock band back in 2007-2009 but it seems like that genre kind of died a slow death. How is the next gen versions?

Guitar Hero Live was very well received by community, it's a lot of fun after you accept and adapt to new 6-button control scheme. Its rival Rock Band has also released a game for next gen, but it was complete failure compared to Rock Band 3. The original GH series still gets the love, mostly by the old hardcore community, and the multiplayer servers are still up, though you can't buy DLC anymore.

I can't imagine myself playing hack'n'slashes on PC on a regular basis. I associate them way too much with PS3.

strategy games on pc because It's awful to control them with a controller. Racing games or any games where you drive a lot (usually open world games) on controller because driving with keyboard sucks. I don't really care what system I play anything else on. I used to play a lot of games on console because I didn't have a good enough computer, but I do now so I mainly play pc. I still use console to play all my old games though.

A lot of people have problems using a controller for fps, but both controller and keyboard and mouse are easy and natural to me because I grew up playing Xbox.

It can playable, I played Halo wars on Xbox and that was okay.

I also tried Xcom on Xbox, and moving characters, especially between different heights, is finicky on pc, on Xbox it was pretty much impossible.

PC Master race...
Seriously though, i don't really care but i personally see no reason to buy restrictive hardware to play games. I'm a bit sad we don't get all the cool RPGs and beat em ups and such on PC but it's not worth investing in a console...
With regards to having a bigger tv screen than monitor, i use a HDMI-Cable if i feel like using that screen.

I have played games on computers since the commodore 64. Consoles are not dumb. Anything that increases sales in the gaming medium is good for gamers period. The more game customers there are the more game studios there will be and the result should be more quality game titles for all - so not dumb at all but maybe not your preference ;)

It's less about console vs pc where games are concerned, and more controller vs keyboard and mouse.

You don't suppose people play certain developer titles (cough ubisoft) on console vs pc for DRM reasons?

Guess it's always a possibility. I myself have never had any issues arise from DRM though, so I wouldn't pay hundreds of $$$ for a console just to avoid it.

For me, consoles are for sports games, driving games and (casual) split/screen multiplayer games to be played on the couch with friends.
PC for everything else.
I bought a couple FPS-games for PS3 a few years back, I could never play them much.
Playing FPS-games with a controller is just so wonky, it immediately just makes me frustrated, because I know I could enjoy the game so much more with a mouse+keyboard combo.

I think that a console is better if you have friends near where you live or if you are a casual player because the game's price is incredible high :/
Of course it's just my opinion >.< it's important if you are good while play ^^

I like sooo much the snipers games and puzzles games (intrigue, detectives, dark story, think before you move... ♥_♥)

Definitely PC for FPS. There are some games that have poor K+M controls though (I had to play the first Dead Island on PC with a controller). A console is nice if the PC version of the game is a mess (FFXIII, Arkham Knight), but I only play on PC because I can't afford a console atm

I dont use consoles for the past few years tbh ... the 360 and PS3 are just gathering dust ...
When i used to play anything there it was 99% JRPG / Platformers ... anything else is kinda unplayable ( for me ) with a controler .
