Hi there,

A couple people were kind enough to point out that someone is impersonating my account on Steam. Is there anything to do about it? Appreciate any advice.

Thanks.

Edit. Thank you everyone. Going to close this discussion down and follow your advice. Cheers.

only to report on steam rep.
and some people give fullproof ways to verify their account. like number of games or link to the real steamrep for yourself...
otherthan that? don't think so

Report here on Steamgifts? I'm not sure how to find his account here, all I have is his Steam community ID number.

If you're using Chrome you can install Enhanced Steam, it's a extension that add useful links to steam profiles such as steam rep, steam gifts and much more.

I don't know if reporting here does much but Steam Support could do something about the thing (although it may take a while) :) You could add something ("I'm being impersonated by someone, please be sure to check if the offer comes from me" etc) to your Steam profile about the thing, especially if you trade much.

Okay, cool.. thought I was missing something obvious about how to go from community id to steam account.

Use the Enhanced Steam browser extension: http://www.enhancedsteam.com/
It adds links to other sites to Steam profiles, including Steam Gifts and Steam Rep, and places a red warning on scammer's profiles.

on steam i guess. but is he really impersonating you? like with same profile pic, etc?
maybe try telling him to change his name (might be a coincidence he has ur name although chances are unlikely)

Not a coincidence :-) And he has hit other people previously..

As expected, he doesn't even have a profile here. And he's marked as a scammer by Steam Rep already.
It's most probably the generic "alt account for card farming", repurposed for scamming.

  • add some unique info to your user pic (game count? real steam ID/vanity one)
  • if you can have one of the 1st guys you got +feedback edit that feedback and add a warning (view mine for example)
  • if you're willing > add everyone they have added to scam (not always easy to figure ... )
  • report on steamrep / report on steam (the latter requires a shit ton of reports to lead anywhere lol)
  • feature some kind of group that shows how to trade or not to get scammed > this could keep scammers from adding you

install the addon of http://www.enhancedsteam.com/ > improves the store info + adds some
useful buttons and links on everyone profile to steamgifts/steamrep and whatnot

np, also to manually look it up
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/DEwma/find-user-by-steam-id
just be sure to copy/paste their real steam ID and not the vanity one,
which can be changed and isn't valid afterwards

oh I see you got a sniper avatar-it is a hero of Dota 2 what you should is buy a heroic of this hero which are one of a kind and state that your account also owns that item.while you show it on your showcase.
These items are drops from professional games and they are one of kind so choose anything you like and state on your description the unique tag of the heroic.I hope this helps!

Not sure I want to invest in a paid profile pic. I just picked Sniper on a whim because he kinda looks like me ;-)

Will change my profile pic for now though.

It's one of the most prolific impersonators to date, some of his other Steam accounts have already been trade banned by Valve. This impersonator has already impersonated dozens of high rep SG traders in the last days alone.

It's like he or her has a main account that is hidden through family sharing and with a lot of other accounts.

He or here has no SG account.

He or her is already banned on Steamrep as you get a warning if you look there and you can report him or her there.

SG support confirmed to me that it is allowed to place an impersonator warning on your SG trade/feedback page.

You can't call out someone that hasn't got a Steamgifts account.

You can post on your own Steam activity (outside the SG call out rule) that you are impersonated by "post the impersonators Steam ID64 link" and ask your Steam fiends to report him or her through his or her Steam profile (impersonating other user).

Also as he copies your avatar you can change your avatar into something like this:

Hey LostSoul,

That's a good idea. I'll change my profile pic at least. I did find that you can report someone for impersonation on Steam, so went ahead and did that already.

Cheers.
