Microtransactions in games is an immoral practice. They KNOW that all they have to do is convince the player to spend once. Get them to buy something inexpensive, like a load of goodies in a beginner package for 5 dollars, and it's all downhill from there. The next thing you know, that player has spent 100s, maybe 1000s of dollars on their game. Getting them to spend once means that they are far more likely to feel comfortable spending again. A fiver here, a 10 there.... it all adds up over time. In fact, it's encouraging addiction, and preying on people to an extent. The more they spend, the more they feel invested in those games. I say shame on Valve for punishing games that really are 100% free.
So, being pointed in the direction of games that are free and don't require you to spend to enjoy them are welcome. Like... I wouldn't mind if there was a once off payment for "premium" content that supports development. Developers need to eat. But the microtransaction practice is a big NOPE. =)

I don't like MTX either, but I'm kinda cool with cosmetic MTX on F2P games. I understand they have to make money, but P2W MTX in F2P games and MTX in paid games, or P2W MTX in paid games (outrageous)? N O P E. The worst of all are lootbox P2W MTX in paid games.

I don't have an issue with some cosmetic stuff or that kind of thing if it's to support the game. You know? If I am not paying to win, but buying something to support a game I love. I'd do that here and there. Not a problem. But P2W... No.
Well... I played a game years ago where there were no lootboxes, but a P2W model. I spent next to nothing on the game, yet I was one of it's top players. It was possible to get there by using simple math to calculate ranges and win fights with the units you are defending, etc. I was leading the top clan. Some guys in my clan had literally spent 1000s on the game. Obviously, we had some of the best players, but that also meant some of the most addicted, and THAT was a problem. Not a problem for me or my clan, but a problem for those individuals and their families. One guy got divorced because of the game. It was just as bad as having a guy who gambles or drinks too much. He was spending all day on the game when he wasn't working, sometimes on there WHILE at work, and not limiting himself at all. He was spending like a mad thing and not spending any time with his kids. He told us that his wife said this, but he didn't believe he was as bad as she was saying. I'd say he certainly was. Nice guy, but needed help.
I left the game after about a year because botting became a prevalent thing. That made it not fun. The people who were the biggest spenders were the ones botting so the devs turned a blind eye. I pop into their chat years later to see if anyone still used it only to find that the server was dead and they were still playing, running several computers to feed their habit.
That's why I hate microtransactions. They pull people with addictive personalities in and when they've spent money, they feel invested and keep doing it to keep their "investment" alive. The people who design these systems know exactly what they are doing and know that this will be the outcome for some people. That's why when I watched a Ted talk on setting up these systems many years ago, I was a bit disgusted. The person admitted that it's an immoral practice. He was describing how to hook people by making them feel like it's okay to part with a little cash, then a little more, and hopefully a LOT more. He said once you get them to spend once, you've broken that barrier where they feel it's okay to spend money on it. It was a bit of an eye opener to see it from the other side.

Hi everyone, been a very long time since I posted a new thread here!
Overview
So, I've been frustrated with Steam's stance against completely free games. These developers have to pay 100 USD to be on the store, and then Valve buries them because they don't generate any kind of revenue (you can see on the right of the store page that says "steam is learning about this game". What's worse is that they all get paired along freemium/free-to-play games that generate thousands of revenue, so these games have zero visibility, they don't stand a chance on their own.
To give them a hand, I created an informative list of games that aren't demos, that aren't prologues, and that don't have any DLC that add meaningful content - for example, if a "Donation DLC" adds just a hat, I add the game to the list anyways. But it depends, and that's why curation is important.

What's next for this list
It's very close to reach 100 games, which is an amazing number. I'm pretty sure there are already 100 fully free games but I've yet to bump into them. If you feel somewhat interested in this, you can help me achieve that. Also, I'm using the "featured" functionality of Curated pages to add a personalized list so people can add the games they really like. Or perhaps we can categorize the games depending on the genre? Who knows.
As a second concern, with time there has been a growing number of student games, that is, games made in colleges for practice. Since their quality varies a lot, at some point it might be worth discussing what to do with those, but for now, they're all in!
