Is there an easy way to make these? I have a few games I want to make GA's for but I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE making region restricted GA's as they are annoying to figure out. FRor me at least.

Oh, and did I mention that I hate to make these otherwise?

And a small GA as thanks for your input.

their is no easy way, as long as SG don't fine tune its UI/UX

If I correctly understood the cause of the problem, this should help. Just choose this when creating a GA, it works for most keys.

You can't invert those. Eg you are in Australia and Humble says your gift is region restricted so you can't do RU+CIS, SE Asia and South America.

That option only lets you select these areas (and only one of them), it doesn't allow you to eliminate these areas and do multiple.

Yea it is a problem. I usually select all and just manually deselect these locked but it is big pain to do such thing (but it happens very rare, as I GA region locked games rarely). Of course you can just select one region and block GA for rest but I usually only want to remove these locked.

Functionality to deselect just one region or several region would be big help.

Can you give an example of such a key? Typically keys are locked to one region (RU/CIS, Asia, SA), but inversely a EU/US/AU key should work fine in those regions*.

* with some rare exceptions, like EU only keys.

There are two keys for that game:

  • LATAM + RU + CN + IN + TR
  • Everyone else

Since you are in the second group (Australia), your key works everywhere, even in LATAM + RU + CN + IN + TR. :)

Hey I just do as I'm told ... Humble said key wouldn't work in those regions so I do like they say.

I don't wanna risk being told bad info ... if Humble's wrong fine I can complain and actually get compensated for their error.

If you are interested, Lily does a good job of posting the actual restrictions in the bundles she posts. :)
90% of the time though I believe Australian keys should be region free.

Oh, bless you for pointing out the "preset regions" option - I didn't know about that.
I have a game I want to give away but I've been hedging because I don't understand the region locking system very well. This makes it a lot easier.
Thank you!

This makes things easier, but I advise you to check if all regions match before running GA.
Sometimes there are strange keys that have features (we already talked about LATAM + RU + CN + IN + TR above, but there are others).

I'll check the regions carefully before making the giveaway active.
Still, the preset regions does save ticking a lot of individual checkboxes - especially for games that are only excluded form 1 or 2 regions.
Thanks again!

There is nothing hard in making region restricted giveaway (search for required country, check/uncheck, repeat), but finding out actual restriction is whole another story. And, actually, there is no 100% working and bulletproof way of finding correct region restrictions for a given key.

Yeah the only way I see them is when making a gift link in HB.

Thing is - what you see is not actual restrictions, it can be (and often is) bullshit.

ah gotcha. Well I still try to account for the restricted ones when I can. I'd hate to gift a winner only to find out it can't be redeemed for them. just for my own rep.

Well, since we can't get precise information - using this information from humble sounds like a sane choice.

I usually just use the Humble Gift Link to find out the regions not allowed and when creating the giveaway use the Find feature (Control + F) to search the 2 letter country codes ... so yes it takes some time.

Quite often they just made up their regions, sensualshakti always lists the actual restrictions in the bundle's topic.

With individually bought games.... likely easier to rely on whatever HB says.

I find the worst when it's something allowed in a lost of countries and disallowed in some others. I think an "invert selection" would help alleviate that situation.
I also think that the default for region presets is "select my countries, deselect everything else" is not as useful as it could be if it would be "select my countries, leave the rest untouched".
Those two changes would help a lot for region restricted GAs. IMHO.

What about games with region lock hell such as the Mafia game and Borderlands 3? I want to put that in my GA's I'm going to make soon and that has a TON of locks on it.

I would just make it for your own region if you want to be sure. It looks like North American keys for Mafia and BL3 are region free though.

currently you have those marked as not allowed in the U.S. Idk if that was your intention or not.

When region lock is complex, I just make GA for my region.

No point to bother getting exact setting

Newbie question. When I click on region restricted giveaways, I assume that the regions listed are the ones allowed. Am I doing it wrong? Should I skip the bundle if my region is listed instead of the other way around?

Checking it is marking that country as Allowed. So when I make one, I " check all" and then uncheck the few where it is not allowed.

Got it, so I've been doing it correctly. Thank you.
