won't be calling out, but a GA made by a user (registered 2 weeks ago and has made lots of GA since) require a registration to another site in order to get the key. i think it is not allowed.
sadly i know that any support ticket i make will be opened a while from now, so i'm asking you. is it ok?

the GA description is:
"Region Free Retail Steam Key via HRK Gift

Must be first redeemed on HRK Site (https://www.hotrandomkeys.com), free registration is required. You will be send an email from HRK with a link to redeem the key. Once redeemed go to your Steam Client and activate it.

Note: if you cannot find the email please check your spam folder. You are looking for email with the following subject: “Hotrandomkeys - You’re receiving a gift copy of the game “Garshasp: The Monster Slayer” on Hot Random Key”

Good Luck to All"

Edit: made a support ticket. will update once it's answered
Edit 2: support said it's not allowed, and close my ticket and the discussion.
so if you are reading this. thanks for sharing!

"yes" (really? odd)

Why is it different to humble/indiegala links? Was answered below.

Edit: Support tickets I made in the "other" category were answered quite fast.

Should not be allowed, because it is another giveaway site.
It is different, because humble bundle or indiegala are the stores from which the keys are, not giveaway sites.
Also, Humble and the other sites do not require a registration in order to get the keys, the customer can give links/keys away without the recipient having to register at them.

To get key via email you also have to register on "another' site such yahoo, google etc. So what is the problem? It's just a secure way to pass key and extra option to make sure your key was not activated by giveaway maker or amateur trader.

That is not the same. You obviously already need an email adress to use SteamGifts.
My interpretation of the rule Joachim posted below would be that it is not allowed, but support has to answer that.

It's hard to say if this is ok or not.

There is this rule :

You cannot ask users to perform any special action in order for their entry to be considered valid, such as liking a Facebook page, or following a Twitter account.

But technically they aren't asking to perform a special action for the entry to be considered valid, they are asking to perform a special action in order to receive the gift.
It's kind of grey area, and the only way to get an answer is to create a ticket.

^^ this + I highly doubt hotrandomkeys is an authorised key reseller so its way different than humblebundle links.

I have purchased from hotrandomkeys they are part of g2a and have had no problems with them. You have to sign in to indie gala and humble to receive keys so whats the difference.

hotrandomkeys they are part of g2a

Aaaaaaand here we have the core of the problem in five words. Nothing associated with G2A can be better than a really dark hue of grey.

Actually, you don't have to sign in to HB or IG to receive keys. And why have the user go through hoops like that anyway when you can just paste the key itself in the giveaway creation page?

rules here seem to only cover entries, not winning.

still, that request is a bit sketchy. easier to just send the key or gift to the winner.

Well, someone may say that you have to registry on Humble Bundle to get the key. I don't know this site, but that means nothing, maybe it's legit? I would wait to see if winners will mark it as received.

And, well, if someone don't like the idea, he doesnt have to take part in a GA.

you don't have to register to Humblebundle. and even if you do, SG says that only keys and Humble links are possible.
i'm not sure, hence i asked...

I saw his comment. And yeah, you are right with Humble Bundle, I got things a little mixed but still - it's kinda third party site. Like I said I would wait to see if this games will be received. One of his GAs for this games ended some time ago and it's awaiting feedback.

maybe the one waiting is the one who doesn't want to activate the site. not me...

Yo chill, Tiny Purple :D I dodn't sugest anything, I see you here on forum from time to time and I can say you are good dude :D

Anyway, no matter what support will have to say about it, I will check on this ended GA just of curiosity, to see if it will be marked as received.

I'm chill. look at the pic
that was a joke ;).

and I've seen one person who marked before he got the game, to save time (one of my GA's). so this will be marked for sure. too many people don't read the rules/faq. oh well, at least we have air conditioning

I don't really remember how HB gifts worked, but wouldn't you need to connect your Steam account to HB in order to activate the key? Anyway, I am in the "legit" side on this one.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i think so.
if you buy it, you can get a key and not a ref. don't remember what happens if you get a ref. still HB is "safe" as can be

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The whole "connect with Steam" got ditched.
As far as I recall, turning a HB key into a gift now still takes it off your profile before you can see what the key is (so you can't "gift" it and use it yourself), and whoever receives it gets redirected to the special corner of the HB site where they can claim and see the key.

Oh, my bad then. I haven't recieved a HB gift in a while.

G2A doing another blatant spam campaign using some poor idiots to do the marketing for them for free.
At least this time they are not directly spamming forums and chats with bots. Maybe realised using these fools is even cheaper and more credible.

Nothing is real, everything is permitted... But yeah, this is fishy, and shouldn't be allowed on SG in my opinion. I'm cool with people advertising their YT channels, twitch, whatever really! But forcing you to register, to get what you won... no thanks. I won't enter such giveaways, even if it's a game I want really badly for some reason.

What's the thing with these "random key" websites nowadays? Cashmiliking the stupid? I mean like 80% of the games they offer were free in the past and the whole algorithm behind it is fishy as hell.

What about a case in which someone creates a giveaway for some game X and writes in the description that if the key is not workig s/he would provide a key to another game Y. If the game X is more expensive than game Y the giveaway creator gets more points to her/his contribution level...

And about the main question in this topic - I've also noticed a giveaway with that description and simply didn't take part in it

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In that case the winner is supposed to mark it not received. Although there is an option to change the giveaway to the game that was given, if the winner agrees.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

what you wrote is forbidden.
you can give more games, but can't swap the games... you will be branded as someone who doesn't activate and you could be banned for it.

not taking part is for the common folk, i really want ot know if it's ok by the site. a while back cg said no more special rules, this is one. sort of

Wouldn't say so. I mean no harm is done when you register there considering the website is legit, but this is promotion to get people hooked. Plus people argue that we have to register for e-mails and shit? That's an expected and necessary basic nowadays and you already needed one for your Steam account so this is a given thing. Shaking my head for this one, but back to the point. Humble Bundle and Indiegala, I never had to register there to get a key. Just put in my e-mail address and get my key and as I said I already have an e-mail so what's the problem here?
Considering it is promotion to get people hooked I would say it's pretty damn shady and a bold move, but when no harm is done noone can say something I guess?

yes, but like the GA creator wrote:
"free registration is required"
you are right, HB and IG have an option of not to register. that's fair. this one requires registration.

i know my thread (and especially my poll options) says it's wrong, but i'm really not sure.
wisdom of the masses (and i asked support).

Permalink

Considering this is promotion, which it clearly is, cause they just sell keys and keys can easily be sent without any registration, it is actually forbidden. 'Cause it's the same as following someone on Twitter because they want to expand their followers, but in this case they want to expand on their userbase.
They use this small grey area to get some really cheap advertisement.
I would say it's bullshit thinking about it a bit more. I don't mind G2A like most users, but I surely mind self-promotion and those stupid random keys which only sell free promo keys for ridiculous prices.

They could have done it via the Steam Group way, make the giveaway group only, promote their group on the website and promote their website on the group. That would make it super legit on both sides. They were either just lazy reading the rules or making the prior.

HB/IG/IGS giftlinks bascially need entering email address and thus are registration too. There is no mention in rules AFAIK about this, it's necessary procedure to obtain key anyway. Unless creator goes through that her/himself and makes it easier for your convenience ofc.

It's not allowed, but technically possible. As long as the winner gets a working Steam-redeemable key or gift, all's good on Steamgifts (can't say for other websites the key came from).

Well after I registered on their site to participate in one of the giveaways (on their site not a SG GA) I got alot of spam. Cant prove they are responsible for that but for me there is no doubt that they sold my email or something.
Again maybe they are legit and its just coincidence but I havent registered to another site in over a week and it started aproximately an hour or two after the sign-up.
