1. Do NTSC DS ( original DS ) games work on a PAL 3DS? because the DS isn't region locked but 3DS is.

  2. Are you satisfied with your 3DS? Would you recommend it to your friends?

  3. Do you play it even though you're primarily a PC gamer (if you are)?

  4. Are there any 2 addicting games I should pick up when I buy it?

  5. Can it connect to all WiFi connections? My DSi couldn't and the DS could only connect to WEP

  6. Are there any non-gaming uses to it, like Music or movies?

I am interested in it because I have every generation of Pokemon and it would be a shame if I can't play the revolutionary X and Y, and I have almost every Nintendo handheld except for the original Gameboy from the 80's.

Can't say anything about the other questions.
Are you interested in the Zelda series? Try Ocarina of Time 3D if you haven't played the original.
Also the next Zelda game A Link Between Worlds is in development.

  1. I have an American 3DS and some British/Japanese DS games and they work. I'm not certain it will work the other way around, but it really should.

  2. Yes.

  3. I'm not, really, but I do play on the 3DS quite a bit.

  4. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward and Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Edit: Virtue's Last Reward is a bit eccentric, so if you don't like that genre insert Kid Icarus: Uprising in its place.

Hm, I did here a bit about Fire Emblem, lots of hype.

and about 1, that's great because I have like 20 DS games from when I lived in the US but now I live in PAL regions.

Yeah, it's very well done. If you don't like strategy/tactics games, it won't really convince you, but I think it's one of the best strategy games to come out in a while. Also, I think the art style in the cut scenes is totally stunning.

  1. Yes they work.
  2. Yes.
  3. Depends on my schedule.
  4. Fire Emblem: Awakening and Animal Crossing New Leaf ( a new Zelda and Pokémon titles are also coming up this year.)

P.S. I'd recommend 3DS XL because of the bigger screen.

Well XL is more expensive and I'm saving up Euros for a trip ( where I will buy it in the Duty Free, likely in Euros).

And yeah I heard a lot of animal crossing and I've seen a lot of memes about it.

More expensive, yes, but it's way worth it. The screen is almost twice as large. I highly recommend the XL if you can get it.

  1. Idk.

  2. Sort of. It feels like a fancier and heavier DS Lite.

  3. No, but I will after X and Y come out.

  4. Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.

Well I can play warrio ware on my 3DS and I got that imported from Japan so it should work, however I'm not 100% certain for every game.

I would recommend it to my friends, hell I just recommended it to my brother because he wants the next pokemon game. However I don't always play with the 3D on, depends how I feel really. But I do recommend if you get one don't play with 3D while in a car as it can strain your eyes more. Don't know why but I was advised against this too.

I still play it even though I am primarily a pc gamer, I love my pokemon games and harvest moon games. I even like the little mini games you can get on it.

Hmm that really depends on what type of games you like to play. I myself love harvest moon and have liked harvest moon since the GBA version. Resident Evil Revelations isn't bad but its also on the PC now, though I do like moving the camera with the DS more. Replayed Zelda Ocarina of time was fun on the DS too especially since I didn't have to be in front of a TV to play it. for a music game final fantasy theatrhythm, I just love playing the songs from the series. Kingdom Hearts Dreamdrop is another game I enjoyed playing but I liked the originals as well.

Hope that helps. I'm looking forward to Pokemon X and Y too :D. Oh and I myself have a 3DS XL as it puts less strain on my eyes and is much easier to hold than the standard 3DS.

But isn't the XL more expensive?

Sadly it is more expensive but there may possibly be offers on when Pokemon X and Y come out? I know in a store I use to work at the had deals for the console when a popular game came out. Or you can see what the price goes down to if you exchange it for your current DS. I know some stores do put the price down if you part exchange.

It also depends on what shop you buy it from. As in the UK where I'm from the price can differ considerably from store to store.

I'm sorry I wouldn't know what it would be cost wise duty free, but I can't see it being too much more expensive really... hopefully

also for your music question if you add music to the sd card which you save your games on you can listen to the music. it can play AAC, .m4a, .mp4, .3gp, and .mp3 apparently but I've only tested mp3. but it does mean you would need a sd card reader for your pc/laptop. all you would do is upon opening the sd card you'd see two folders "DCIM" and "nintendo 3DS" and just right click and make a new folder to put your music in.

Depends on where you buy it, and sometimes the colour too. Here (in the UK) it's about £7-£10 more. Which is roughly 8-12 euros, or $10-15.

  1. I know that DS games work on the 3DS, but I cannot comment on if there are any region specific issues.
  2. I am absolutely satisfied with my 3DS. I highly recommend it.
  3. I would consider myself primarily a PC gamer. I just recently bought my 3DS about a month ago, and I play it all the time.
  4. Animal Crossing: New Leaf is deceptively addicting. There is something cathartic about it. Fire Emblem: Awakening is an excellent tactical rpg. If you like tactical games definitely pick that one up. Etrian Odyssey IV is also quite fun. It plays like old school dungeon crawlers with first person dungeon exploration and random turn based battles. You get to make your own party and you use the touch screen to draw the dungeon maps as you explore them. It's a lot of fun. Monster Hunter is another fun game. It doesn't have online multiplayer on the 3DS though which is unfortunate. It's local wireless multiplayer only. However it's also a good game. The Shin Megami Tensei games are also great rpgs. (Can you tell I'm into rpgs? XD)

  3. All-around-gamer here, though I guess I lead more towards the console side. I don't play my 3DS as much but it definitely gets its time.
  4. Many more than 2 games, yes, but I can't say for sure because of my backlog:(

  1. Dunno
  2. Yup, totally worth it.
  3. Well, I only have 2 good games on it which I've finished so I'm on my PC atm primarily.
  4. Pokemon games. Hands down.
  5. Yes, I think so
  6. Well yeah since you can play music on it, record stuff, edit pics etc.

I'm highly satisfied with my XL.
Do yourself a favor and get the XL. HUGE screen, better build quality, 4gb sd card bundled, better slider, matte finish.

Also, PAL XL's don't come with a charger but your 3ds,dsi(not sure bout DS) will work with it.

Oh if you're a fan of the sims I'd advise you to avoid the first 3DS sims game as the controls are really poor and just aren't as good as they have been on previous console versions. I haven't played the latest 3DS sims but from reviews I think it is much easier to control.

  1. I do not know, never tried.
  2. Yes, I got the limited Pikachu 3DS XL edition and it's awesome.
  3. Yes, because some games - like Pokemon - just belong on handhelds and are the best that way.
  4. Well, you mentioned Pokemone X & Y, so those, and I liked the Fire Emblem: Awakening a lot.
  5. Yes, the 3DS and 3DS game support all the wi-fi connections. But beware that playing a DS game on 3DS does not assure wi-fi connectivity.
  6. Yeah, there's an internet browser, you can take notes, listen to music, take pictures, etc.

And as others were saying, the XL version is much better.

You're welcome :)

I know I raged for a while when I found out that Soul Silver only supports WEP because it's a DS game, even if played on a 3DS. Thankfully, Black & White 2 are also DS games, but support other encryptions as well.

3DS can connect to WPA.

It's great and I still play it a lot even though I'm a PC gamer.

I recommend Kid Icarus: Uprising, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mario Kart 7, Kingdom Hearts 3D and there are a bunch of other great games.

Also get it because POKEMON X AND Y ARE COMING OUT AND SO IS SMASH BROS EVENTUALLY!! Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate! MARIO PARTY! MARIO AND LUIGI DREAM TEAM! ZOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGG!!!

  1. Yes.
  2. Yes and yes.
  3. I'd say I play about 30% 3DS games/70% PC games on average. Though I play a lot more 3DS when I just got a new game.
  4. Fire Emblem: Awakening and Devil Survivor: Overclocked if you like strategy RPGs. Otherwise, try Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate or Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
  5. I think you can connect to all Wifi, but I'm not 100% sure.
  6. It can do a bunch of stuff, but honestly I don't use it for anything other than games and Swapnote. It has a browser but it's crappy, it can take pictures but they're crappy, it plays music but the sound quality is crappy, etc. It's made for games, not for all that other stuff.

  1. Don't know

  2. Yes, I absolutely love it and play it almost every day. Almost all of my friends have one already!

  3. My 3DS is the only thing I play games on more than my PC, which I play on very often.

  4. It's not for everybody, so you should make sure you are into a game like this before picking it up (and also get the download copy!) but I'm super addicted to Animal Crossing. They've added a lot of stuff so if you haven't played since the gamecube or have never played one, you're in for a treat. Also, I definitely recommend the newest Fire Emblem game, even if you've never played one. It's the first one I've ever tried and I love it. Also, if you like rhythm games and/or final fantasy, Theatrhythm is suuuuper fun!

  5. Netflix is available on it and you can load music onto it, as well as take pictures, browse the web and send notes to your friends.

1.- 3DS is region locked but only for 3DS games, DS games are fine

2.- I'm really really really satisfied with my 3DS i'm really happy to have one, and i can recommend it for sure

3.- Well i must say i love videogames, i have 300+ games on my steam account, origin, uplay, also got many more games for PSP, Wii, Wii U, DS, but still my main console right now is the 3DS

4.- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, i can spend hours every day, you always have something to do in the game, even if you master one weapon (100+ hours for example) there're 12 completely different weapons to master and i can say Kid Icarus Uprising it's a good choice to spend a lot of time, some missions are really really difficult and like Monster Hunter you have a lot of wepons to choice
The 3DS has the best games for the recent years, you have a lot to play includig Pokemon X/Y

5.- I don't have any issues with any WiFi connections types

6.- You can listen music, watch movies on netflix (not available on all countries), Browser, but it's not a smart phone

Conclusion: buy it you're not gonna regret it

1 They should work although I know nothing about region locks
2 I like mine :) I don't use the 3D feature too often since it can hurt after a while, but damn some games look cool with it.
3 Use it frequently. Mostly for Pokemon.
4 Pokemon!!!! Also Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance and Fire Emblem Awakening.
5 Probably not... Pretty sure it's only WEP and WPA
6 Netflix! They really need to add more apps for videos and music. Hoping for a Crunchyroll app myself.
