Just watched it tonight and... I loved it! It felt very well done and a great sequel to the series 14 years later.

I won't say much else as not to spoil anything but if you want to discuss anything specific in the comments please mark it with a spoiler warning so others know. :)

I wouldn't call it "a great sequel", more like "an expected sequel". It was your average Jurassic Park movie, with a really minor twist and different actors.

The other two sequels weren't great, but they were a lot of fun, like the original. I still have very fond memories of Jurassic Park. I read it in elementary school, including reading some of the gory bits out loud during class. And some friends and I skipped school (with permission) and saw it opening day.

The hybrid Trex thing wasn't as cool as it coulda been, still I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

Especially the ending.
Kinda a spoiler/Spoilerish? The ending reminded me of Jurassic park WARPATH( see youtube.com/watch?v=KNorqc7Aufg)

Spoiler in the fact of dinosaurs battle at the end. (Who woulda thunk?) That is somewhat similar in the fact of a dino falling, getting back up etc. I knew after the outcry of the Trex having it's neck snapped in the 3rd this one had to make up for it.

The dinos only ever battled in 3 though. No other JP movie had a dino battle? That's why I spoilered it.

To your spoiler, yeah I knew right when the TRex came out, I'm like, yep, they are making up for the TRex losing in 3. Many people were pissed by that. lol

Well JP1 had Raptors VS Trex, also not very much VS but Trex ate some dinos in 1st, and that's about all I can think of other than the 3rd's battle.

I was pretty sure the Trex was going to be the finisher before even watching the movie. A couple weeks ago I was predicting that's what would happen and I was close but of course it was with help.

Not quite but the script for the 4th JP in 2005 was going to be a Raptor + Human hybrid that would have helped with crime ; very happy it switched directors multiple times until this one came to fruition.

Really? That first script sucks dino dick

Pretty much. More details about it showing some concept art of it. The 4th installment switched directors 3 or 4 times before this JW version and that idea was the first.

That's both horrible AND stupid, they would have butchered the franchise :/
Thank God it didn't happen!

Since your avatar is Boba Fett I think I can trust your opinion that this is worth seeing, though ;)

It was an 8.5/10 in my book! Did you notice the whole bunch of similarities and hommage scenes to Jurassic Park? I spotted quite a few

I did as well!

to name a few I noticed/read about after: flare guiding the trex, original JP building with night vision helmet and Jeep, kids in the "hamster ball" being attacked like kids by Trex in the jeep, first drop of blood rolled forwards and the 2nd drop backwards on the soldier, and kids parents were divorcing just like the kid's parents were in the 3 as well as 2.

Yeah! And also:

The "clever girl" kind of part with the camouflage. The good guy in Control Room like Samuel L. Jackson, 2 brothers one in its teen and the little one is a dino buff. The assholes of InGen with Military Weaponry in parallel of the pro-Dino Crew (like Lost World). The dying diplodochus like the sick triceratops. The T Rex saving their asses at the end, also having velociraptos in the final fight. The douchebag of the movie taking away dino DNA (but in this one he succeeded to have a sequel). The park doesn't want to acknowledge that they have lost control and that turns out to transform in a lot of deaths.

And... I can't remember more right now, but still, that's a whole lot of winks to the original movies! :]

But you just quoted the entire movie, are you sure those are just "winks"?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, I'm not sure if they are winks or an hommage, they may as well have copy pasted the exact core structure of Jurassic Park but at least it didn't suck like JP3 which was quite regular and not as awesome as JP1 and 2!

Good ones! Didn't think about those. I liked that they combined some things from the original movies and the books. I was waiting to see a rusty barbasol can in one of the shots but sadly didn't.

You were seriously expecting for some product placement? Lol, myself I waited the whole movie to watch the final scene, I knew it was bound to happen!

In the 1st movie the heavier guy that is killed by the dilophosaurus drops the Barbasol can with the dino DNA in it and it flows down the waterfall and is then buried in the mud. Since they never did anything with it in the sequels I thought they might have a quick cameo for fun in JW.

I watched it during the opening night, on 3d.. great movie, horrible decision to watch it during opening night. It took me a while to find a sit.

one thing I can say

I have roller coaster of emotions about the raptor squad.
When they were about to fight the hybrid:
"Oh geez, I hope they don't die"
When they joined the hybrid and attacked the humans
"KILL IT! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!"
When they turned againts the hybrid to save human
"Oh no!! I hope they don't die".
When only one of them survived
:(

Very sad when Owen looks at Blue and shakes his head at the end telling her that the sisters are dead and she is now alone.

Yeah me too, they have some really bad leadership issues! lol, but it was a great final showdown, it was my favorite part of the whole movie

Honestly i was mostly disappointed. I mean yeah, sure, dinosaurs were cool i guess and the CGI was "good enough", but the story was bland and the characters were downright silly for the most part. You can literally tell who will not survive from the moment you "meet" them. And i don't get why people loved the "nods" to the older movies, the first couple times it happened i thought "yeah, cool" but then they're just so in your face about it and there's so many of them that it that it just felt like they were there just to stroke Spielberg's e-peen. Oh and those fucking kids, jesus, such annoying and over the top stereotypes, the kid who kept trying to sound like a nerd but made no sense or could not properly pronounce the "science" he was trying to spew and the aloof older brother who goes from not giving two shits about his brother and preferring to look at random chicks to being his best pal in the world. If you think about it all the characters, not just the kids, were silly exaggerated stereotypes. And don't even get me started on dinosaur silliness, especially that scene with the T-Rex and the raptor having a "moment". Also how the fuck did she run through the fucking jungle, through the main, concrete, area of the park, the buildings, etc and all the way to the end on fucking heels without breaking them?! She even outran the damn T-Rex....

TL;DR I'm happy some of you enjoyed it, i thought it was silly/weak for the most part and will waste ticket money to see the next one, and you know there will be a next one.
