PS: The giveaway ended......Well we still have this ↓. Enjoy.

Most are easy, some are very hard. GLHF

Hint #1: Problem #7's history is long.

Hint #2: #6 is a proof of how politeness has been lost among the younger generations in Japan.

Hint #3: Q#7 If you think about the situation where these words were used, and then compare to how it is used today? The answer lies there.

Hint #4: Question #6 contains a mistake that many Japanese people do every day and thinks it is perfect keigo, while those who know proper keigo usage cringes.

Hint #5: Q#5 is different....I wonder what it is.

Hint #6: 「御」前

Hint #7: This. ALSO, there is a freebie hint hidden on this page somewhere.

Also, can you please try writing down what you think is the answer to the questions you are stuck at? I can then help you guys more accurately. EDIT: Only to those you can not solve.

Agreed. I got the first four. I think I know the last three as well, but none of the ways I've tried to express it have worked.

Yeah, I'm missing the last two. I know the answers, but I have no idea how to format them to get the quiz to accept.

I have this problem for the last three :(

The hint will give parts of the sentence. All you have to do is fill in the missing parts. I am going to school now, and if it still is a problem, then I will provide a hint.

Will just wait for the hints then :)

Indeed. I'm reasonably certain I know what each item means (I have a B.A. in Japanese Studies), but it's taking ages figuring out (i.e. guessing) what particular turn of phrase is wanted.
(Although, to be fair, the fact that English isn't my first language probably isn't helping ^^)

"What do these words have in common?
お前 貴様 己"

The Answer isn't "A lot of lines" =(

Can't figure out which translation you want for mizukara... couldn't you give a hint which dictionary you used? :P

You are thinking too much. Or too little. I did not use a dictionary for any of this, really, but I am quite confident in my Japanese skills. Also, I ran everything by a dictionary as well, so it is correct.

I figured number 6 out thanks to your hint :D
mizukara is still difficult.. I'm not a native English speaker so I have to mostly rely on dictionaries when doing Japanese -> English.. but I'll try a thesaurus now

The number of stars is not in any way or form related to the number of letters in the missing area.

Hints added. Now it should be easier. A lot easier.

Not really easier - it confirms I knew the right answer, but I still can't figure out the needed answer format :/

While I know what 5 and 7 are talking about, I can't seem to find the correct answers so I'm just going to give up.
Good luck everyone!

yeah, google translate isn't very reliable in this case ;X~

I would not recommend Google translate, as it it only gives you the translation. You will need some BG info on the words and to read up on the history of the words. All can be done through google.

Even after researching the historical word usage, literal meanings, and how they're currently used, I can't figure out the specific words that the quiz is looking for. At least I'm learning something!

I'm stuck on 5 and 7 as well. My Google-fu isn't good enough!

Got first five , I'm a decent japanese speaker.
As for Q6 and Q7 I can't guess the answer's format.

1 decade ago

Q#6 is just the reading of the one of the parts of the sentence that is wrong.

Q#7 is following the format shown. What do you think it is?

Wouldn't that potentially spoil others, though ?

After 2 days everyone had a fair chance figuring out the answers by themselves, so feel free to share your answers.
I can't solve no.5 - tried out nearly everything I can think of and looked up words on a thesaurus.. still think "oneself" would fit best.
And I can't solve no.7 - they have in common that you can use them to adress a second person and that it's considered quite rude to use them nowadays. Maybe the first ** is "polite".

(And, since the one person listed to have solved it is probably the OP, so apparently is everyone)

Even with the hints, #7's exact wording still eludes me. Has anybody actually figured this one out yet ?

Does each group of asterisks represent a single word or a phrase? It's still difficult to figure out the exact answer you're looking for.

No offense NoobsDeSroobs, but IMOH, language puzzles should be about figuring out, well, puzzling aspects of language, not guessing which exact answer format or phrase out of a million possibilities the puzzle's author had in mind when he made it.
