[Edit] Game is going to be removed, but first increased his price, more "social" explanations here.

I would only do that with games like System Shock 2, which is worthy of it - but only at sale price.

I went looking into the achievements list to see if there was any truth to that.

That actually infuriates me... It's one thing to have a charge for achievements (It's not like it hasn't been done before. Take any DLC exclusive achievement). But what pisses me off is the audacity of that little shit. He actually thinks that he's worthy enough to waste other people's time to contact him and just humor him. Fucking idiot. The arrogance just flows out of his pores in his acne-ridden face...

I've seen it on reddit before, on PlyrStar93's link. This is a pretty scummy way to get money, and Valve is no better for encouraging this behavior by refusing to bat an eye at these incidences (it took them pretty long to deal with Digital Homicide, that too only when the notoriety got out of hand)

Valve's new rules against external bidding/betting ? (since you're betting on getting an achievement basically).
Or just Fraud ? Since it can be seen as a shady way to get contact & banking information ?

Or neither of them. Wouldn't particularly defend it but it seems a curious place to draw a line in the sand. Valve have become a dreadful company and with it Steam has descended into a godawful cesspit. If anything it's more surprising this moneygrab seems to be a one off.

Looks like it's another one of those devs that take some weird issue with cheevs and go on a personal vendetta against them, thinking they are the brightest minds in the gaming industry for "exposing" perfectionist...

Mixed feelings on this. When it's a handful of devs doing their own thing, then yeah, they seem like they're just meaningless troublemakers, and some of them are just being asses - but I think we need more of them, and to see this turn into a more legitimate movement. Achievements are designed primarily for marketing, not for the players, and the sooner more players understand that the system is against them, the sooner they'll work together to actually do something about the issues with the whole system instead of focusing so much on individuals, some who are actually on their side.

I'm still subscribed to the discussion about how he can charge money for the last achievement, and tbh I'm having a great time reading all the stupid complaining. If the achievements were just broken, there wouldn't be such an uproar, and I still remember Gauge's achievement Don't fill the Gauge! that also attracted bloodthirsty completionists to the topic who though dev is the son of satan for not making the achievement actually available. The amount of shittalking and hate is quite something in both cases

I think it's funny. I can be somewhat loosely described as an achievement hunter but would find broken achievements more annoying than unobtainable ones. I'm not going to 100% every game in my backlog - some games are too hard, some too grindy/boring, some are simply not worth my time, so why get so worked up over it?

I actually think it would be a semi-interesting talking point to reach 99% average completion and explain the reasons behind the missing 1%. More interesting than brag brag brag, Mr. 100% coming through.

The people getting so worked up over it is just lol worthy. Chill, life's too short, and you look ridiculous.

Mimic chests are relatively common in low-fantasy RPG settings. Old D&D style games liked to have them as well.

While I consider myself somewhat of an achievement hunter, I find the whole idea of auctionning an achievement pretty funny. At least they're trying something different. It reminds me of "have a drink with the devs" in Dredmor or "take a pic of the game's waifu with a cake you prepared next to her and send it to the dev" in Hate Plus, and I wish there were more weird achievements like that (I already feel the banlists coming for that comment).

Sure, the dev's acting like an asshole on the forums, but it also feels like he's somewhat roleplaying himself through the prism of his "social interactions" game and I find that quite funny as well.
