Human or Non-human?
Really it depends, if there are different stats then I will normally go for the one that lets me choose the interesting stats that work with my gameplay. However, I do normally choose humanesque characters if it is purely cosmetic. I guess it also depends on how non-human they are. Something slightly different is more interesting, or something hugely different (If I had to choose between a human or Cthulu, you have 3 guesses which is cooler)

Human, always.
I'm a sucker for making attractive characters (male and female) and to me, that means humanoid. I don't really care about having the BESTEVA stats (I did a ridiculous amount of theorycrafting, agonising over stat distribution and abilities when I was winning cash from MMOs, so I'm pretty burnt out by it). If I want to feel more powerful in games, I can just turn the difficulty down.

I don't really like weird looking mofos. So I would go with humanoid looking races. I m all about tall redheads.

Dwarf for the win of course, there is nothing more satisfy than bash a head of some goblin with a big hammer while drunk

= .=I normally choose Orc, the ones good with close-ranged battle.

Skyrim I'm Nord, but in next Elder Scrolls I will make a Khajit,
In WoW most time I played as Human Warlock, but I also played as female Night Elf too, I also liked playing as Tauren Druid, and female Blood Elf, but for this 2 just dedicated little time. But in WoW imo Night Elves aren't like humans, Blood Elves are more like Humans. But if I play WoW again I would make a Night Elf druid female, Undead warrior male, Troll druid male, I may try Panda too, but just try, I'm not interested in playing as Panda at all, I just never played as him.
I choose "non-human", because I dedicated too much time to "Human like" races playing video games.

Lore-wise, Night Elves is non-human, but still too human-ish to me.
Most games have human as majority main character/race after all, so I'm, not surprise about 'too much time', hah.

If the stats or playstyle dont go -completely- against what I want to do (I do make small changes if needed) I will give preference to anyone and anything that resembles cats, because cats are awesome :x That is as long as it doesent look completely horrible to me aswell of course, because one thing I dont want to have to do while playing games is look at the backside of something I hate the look of :x

Let's see, in fantasy settings, if there's a game that you have a choice to choose to play between Human (Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Human-Look) and Non-Human (Furry, Anthro, Animal, Goblin, Orc, Alien, Monster). Assumed they same or different stats or skill, with or without lore/story, both have GA, etc. Which one you will choose?
Something like,
Skyrim, which will you choose between Khajiit, Argonian or other human races?
Evolved, assumed there same game play, which will you choose Human or Monster?
World of Warcraft, Alliance (Draenei excluded), or Horde (Blood Elf and Undead excluded)?
Mass Effect, Human or other Aliens?
etc...
I thinking about choosing a theme for my game, I lean toward non-human though, but I want to see majority's choice as well. ;P
