Hello,
I started playing Double Dragon Neon and, sadly for me, I found that my (cheap) controller is not working. And playing it with the keyboard looks like a evil curse (yes, I tried a few minutes and it was a horrible gaming experience).

In the Steam forums some people talks wonderful about x360ce, but I'd never use it. I downloaded and installed it but I'm not sure how can I make it works properly. I put it in the main directory of the game and execute it, but it failed. So I choose a different directory, but nothing happens.

Can, anyone, write a little step-by-step tutorial? I would be very grateful.

At what point it fails? And does it give any kind of error?

Not really. I execute the software and then I open the game, but the controller is still not working. Maybe I'm doing it in a wrong way, as I said, I don't know the software.

Try using different buttons on your controller with x360ce turned on. Are corresponding buttons in the emulator flashing?

No, all gray.

Then you should try binding them manually. Just select a button and "record" it.

Yes, that was the problem. I tried a different combination, really, and the gray image changed to a 100% coloured one, and the controller works like a charm. Almost magic, for me. Thank you very much!

No problem. I'm glad it works now.

  • Extract the files into "C:\ProgramData\X360CE\"
  • Configure your gamepad using the x360ce.exe tool
  • Edit the x360ce.ini file and add the "Version=1" line to the [Options] section
  • Copy the xinput1_3.dll file into the folder that contains the Double Dragon Neon executable.
  • Launch the game. If the game successfully detects x360ce, it will beep once upon launch.

  • Make sure the folder is "C:\ProgramData\X360CE\", not "C:\Program Files\X360CE\"
  • Make sure you programmed the gamepad correctly - you can either do it manually or download the preset from the net (the Settings Database tab)
  • Make sure you placed xinput1_3.dll in the correct folder - it must contain the game's main executable - in this picture I'm using Braid as an example. Do not copy other x360ce files there, only the single DLL.

Yay! It works! I change the configuration and, suddenly, the controller images in the software turn from gray to color. Now, the controller works great. I really appreciate your help!

Ha, used this for years and then I ended up buying a 360 controller, pasting those files was becoming a chore.

Either way Double Dragon Neon is jolly good, enjoy!

I agree with Nostra. I used to use x360ce, it works; but it's just a lot of work for it to work with some games. Trust me in the end your going to end up buying a 360 controller.

I'm more a 'keyboard guy'. I use the controller just for a few games, but I don't reject the possibility of buying one some day.

I am to, but some platmormers just simply aren't made for mouse and keyboard, an example is super meat boy.

So... maybe that is the reason because I suck at Super Meat Boy! ;)
