Thanks to the most amazing Humble Bundle in a long time, I managed to put my hands on a few good game making software including RPG Maker VX Ace. Fortunately I have an idea of the game I want to make, but a few gameplay elements were created in 2003. I'd love to use VX Ace, because it's the most recent, and probably has the best support, but I'd ask a few RPG developers, which is the best software to make RPGs? Because I'm left with coupons for RPGM 2000, 2003 and XP. Are there really major differences between the releases or nothing to worry about?

Thanks for your answers in addition!

I'm very interested in this very same question as well. I'm leaning more towards RPGMaker 2000 when I have the funds primarily due to the fact that this is the first time it's been officially released in English. I'd love to hear the opinions of people who have used it more though.

Also, a random off-topic question. Are these coupons from HumbleBundle tradable at all? I've got at least 3 of each, maybe more, and I only need one.

They are non-tradable, because they are tied to your HB account/e-mail address.

Play some RPG maker games, and get the version that correspond to your favor game.

For the default material contents (stolen from forum).
XP has the best map and audio material, but no face pics.
VX has the best face material but audio is terrible.
2003 is basically an improved version of 2000 except some pics.

For the basic system
2003 is the best but XP and VX could use Ruby scripts to overcome almost anything.

If you are skilled in Ruby scripts, just pick the XP or VX.
If not, pick 2003.
