There any many giveaways for VR-games, but in some cases, one could only recognize it as such if they visit a relevant Steam page.

To save confusion and hassle for those who could not afford or care about VR equipment, I would suggest the administrators to implement filters to limit certain giveaways to users who confirmed they have VR-headsets.

Would it be feasible or does this idea have flaws?

Have you won a VR-game from a giveaway when you don't have a headset for it.

Yes, but I don't have a VR headset.
No, I haven't won such as thing.
I won one and already have VR equipment.

Maybe check games before joining for giveaways? I mean not just VR or not but overall? Unless you actually join whatever giveaway you see, you should not have any trouble checking if it's VR or not?

I did a bunch of VR games GAs during the Christmas box event, put a picture of a VR headset on each box, and still got a reroll request from a person who didn't realize they entered a GA for a VR game (at least they were decent enough to ask for a reroll and not just add it to their library for +1). So yeah, no, however you try to warn them, they'll keep entering everything they see.

That's technically possible, but there are busy people like me who only have so much time and energy to check each game if it's VR-only or not, even with the "hiding games" filter.

But you should check each game anyway to see if it's a game you want or not, unless you are 1 of those hoarders that join everything they see but then who cares if it's VR?

I do (well, except games, that I remember, and that only, when I'm in a rush, as "remember" at times fails), but it would be a significant improvement, if I could use a "no exclusively VR" filter and have less of them to check. And, no, I don't want to put them on my ignore list, as it would be painful to pull them out of there, if I decide to buy a VR set.

Guess that would be a decent reason indeed, though then you get the issue that there are different types of VR sets and some games work with one and other games work with others right? (starts wondering if ESGST has anything like this...)

i think its more to prevent non vr user (primarily auto join bots) from entering. really this issue is better dealt with by using a vr specific group. the only one ive seen is inactive also would be good for gifting old games tht recently have vr mods to people who actually intend on using it for vr

As a VR headset owner, I'd love that. Could be nice to limit those GAs to people who would actually be able to play a game instead of +1 hunters. I mean, VR headsets are still pretty rare, and the numbers of entrees in such GAs are often downright unbelievable. Still, I can't think of a good way to implement such an idea.

I am sure that could be implemented by adding an option "Create a Giveaway" and "User Settings" pages, plus an option for the site user to confirm whether they have a VR headset or not.

I agree with the premise, just from replies it sounds like steam doesn't flag appropriately yet for this to work very well. I do sympathize the intent to filter out VR games when available. I don't enter many games anymore, but I often see new games that look interesting and then click through to read about them or watch video only to find I can't play them due to VR only.

I was just thinking it would be nice if there was a VR filter - that way I don't have to hide them all and later try to find them again if/when I get a VR headset.

-You could point out in the giveaway description the game is VR only. But wait people don't read descriptions.

-Others will tell you "I don't own a VR set but am in the process of getting one in the near/far future".

I think it's a good idea to offer a filter option. If people can't be bothered to research the games they enter giveaways for I doubt a filter will help much though.

I dunno about a filter, but a tag or notice would be nice. Not all VR games can have VR in the title, after all.

all we need is an active vr steam group but im to lazy to bother with verifying applicants have paid vr stuff in their library so... but thats how that could be done

Doesn't mater how active it would be, still more than 90% of VR SG GAs would be done by folks not bothering to join it. Not that I don't think, that having such group is a good idea, but it would solve the problem.

I'd like an easy filter to identify VR games. But part of a problem to implement that is that Steam doesn't yet accurately tag VR games. I've seen several tagged as VR supported that aren't, and I've seen several that support VR but aren't tagged as such. That's a minority though and could easily be corrected manually.

Just do not enter for games you don't want to play.
If you are the game collector/card farmer then VR or not doesn't matter at all

I think the only downside is (apart from Steam sometimes not tagging them properly as someone mentioned) is some games don't support all forms of VR. I got a WMR set "free" with my laptop (it did make it a ridiculously good deal though!) and at the time, in 2017, a great many games didn't support it. But some said they planned to in the future, so I wishlisted a few of them and now WMR support is a lot more common. But only a day or so ago I checked a wishlist giveaway I saw, and found that game still doesn't have WMR support. So I do still have to be careful! If there could be a further filter for types of VR it could be close to perfect!

Yes, I was just thinking about this. Except I was thinking I’d like to find VR games to enter, so if we had like a filter for looking up different kinds of games by genre or tag. But it makes sense that VR games should be labeled as such so that people are aware in case they don’t actually have a headset.

Although another thing to consider is that some games are both VR and flatscreen, so I don’t think it should be limited to verified VR owners. I do think it should be clearly labeled VR though on Steamgifts so that people will know.

I just check games Steam page and if the game is VR i put it on my ignore list as I don't like VR and don't want lo have it ever but it would be great if I could just use one filter and have all VR games be ignored automatically.

But I remember seeing about 2-3 games that either were VR and later got an update that they can be played without VR (some tower defense game I remember was among these) or that were split into 2 games from one and one got VR in the title while the other was without VR. Also some games got VR in the title but the description says they can be also played without VR.

I thought of this as I have a VR headset and don't have many VR games. For me it's a rather good idea.

I vote for VR games to have "VR" at the end like they used to. Just to avoid any confusion. But then I guess that's why they don't anymore.
