You can try this (not tested as I had AC2 before the giveaway) -

Start menu -> Run
Type regedit
Go to the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\ubisoft\Assassin's creed II
There's a value named Language, double click it and type English.

proxy is overloaded probably. try another one or wait some minutes.

with trials i had to try the geoproxy-proxies like 20 different times and suddenly it worked

In case anyone was wondering, yes, you will get a 2nd copy of the game in your Uplay client similar to what happens on Origin.

using openvpn. I got Trials ystd. Now seems to take forever or it's stuck on after logging in (registering PC).

Edit: Finally after retrying a couple times and using chrome and firefox. Firefox won like with trials. Got it now
