Very good game, lot of players online, but if you want to play with a good unit, pro style, most of them are staying on arma 2 arrowhead for now because of the ACE and ACRE that seriously enhance the realism leaving arma 3 behind until those mods are ported.

ACRE,
ACE

Sure you can play arma 3 nicely, but most servers are either 60 people against stupid AI, generally airborne assault only, or lastly king of the hill which is a fun urban combat of 20vs20vs20 with xp and money and classes and very present support with helis over your head getting shot down, spawn trucks being transported by heli etc. Not counting the "life" etc variants.

But if you want to have to actually have to read your map, check your compass, and have trouble communicating with another team because there is a mountain between you, then either wait for the mods to be ported to arma 3 and the good units to come along, or go for arrowhead in the meantime. There is also a wider choice of weapons in arrowhead, including some people favourites.

I agree, Arma 3 is full of servers with Altis life(RP)and chaotic domination mod that causes low performance. Still lack of good mods (ACE ,ACRE) and teamplay servers.

How is the community towards noobs tho? I've never played an ARMA game or games with such realism. Is it ok to be a casual player or does it require full dedication?

No problems on arma 3. Fuuuuull of noobs. You could almost play it call of duty style. Almost. You can be as casual as you want.

But really a game like that, it would be missing a lot not to try to play with some pro unit made of military, ex military and yes casuals all mixed together. Those are of course mainly private servers with given gaming days and hours so you would have to look around a bit but they are all very welcoming and can teach you whatever there is to know. Between pure casual and pure pro teamwork the military way with mods, its like 2 different games.
