How come some games are costlier in Europe than in the US, while others aren't?

I thought there was some kind of a law preventing publishers from changing the price, hence the games cost say 20usd/20eu, but some games actually have equal prices.

Maybe some European developers understand how bad is having unfair prices.

Taxes are higher here in the UK. Cheaper in the US. Only thing i can think of.

Publishers/Devs can set their own prices for each Steam region, if they so wish.

If they don't set their own regional prices, Valve will set the price, which results in $=€ prices.
