SAM is used to unlock achievements. People gets cards to sell by playing the game the instant the card list updates. Crazy, I know.

Ah. I had been unaware of that as I find the program offends me, since the thought of people cheating for achievements to show off just makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with some people.
Even so, I doubt that program is used extensively to farm new game cards.

Another great example is The Binding of Isaac. Most achievements don't even work, so SAM is the way to go.

If you open a game's window in SAM, Steam thinks you're in game.
Crazy, I know.

I've replied to the previous post stating why I had been unaware of that. Not knowing such a pointless feature like that about a program I don't use. Crazy, I know.
Chain time!

You won't get cards faster, but you will get them.

I only buy games with big discounts for myself, why should I do otherwise for the steamgifts community? I gave away like 140$ worth of games on this site and won 40$ and you guys think I'm a selfish hypocrite? Well maybe I should stop giving away stuff if that's how the people treat you for being generous.
P.S.: And BTW I give stuff to the community, not to just the private groups made of a few friends like you MDuh. It's much worse farming CV by making sure the game you give is going to be won by a friend. I give stuff to total strangers and I don't do it just for the privilege of being in a group like you. Fuck you MDuh.

Well, I actually don't care! Cheating will never stop :-)
Say you're a programmer. You find a way to automate the carding process. It gives users like me a kick if it'll work. I don't care if its cheating or not. It just gives an awesome feeling! 8)

No u can't farm multiple cards by opening multiple instances of S.A.M.
Tried it and just wasted 10hours for nothing. TBH, valve won't mind about this. It's a win-win situation, their servers won't be bombarded with game downloads everytime a new game gets cards, in the meantime, users who has internet caps, slow DL speeds, limited HDD space won't need to download a game first before getting the card.

:(
Had 19 games with card drops open.
Got 1 drop from Surgeon Simulator and nothing else for 2.5+ hours for any of the other games.

I still find the software distasteful, as cheating for achievements is ****ing lazy and stupid, as I see them as only to show off when you achieve a difficult goal.
However, MDuh pointed out it allows you to go ingame with titles you haven't downloaded at the time, so that could be useful, even though I see it as pointless as cards are bloody near worthless.

I'm not saying you should. I won it here and have put off playing it at this point because of the download size (I get 75GB a month, don't want to spend so much on one game).
I'm saying I don't see a point in grabbing the cards. You obviously don't care about the game to get the cards for the badge, but selling isn't worth the time spent getting the cards. Ignore the cards, play games you enjoy.

Wait, you can get cards using SAM? O.O
I thinked thats only for get in-game archivements.

SAM fools Steam into thinking you are in a game. And being in a game is what gives you cards.

Assuming they even did give a crap about this (you're almost certainly right that they don't) they still can't ban you for that because it's not conclusive of anything. For all they know you could have copied the game files from a friend's PC because you don't have enough bandwidth to download it yourself.

you still have to install the game using the data copied over. you just arent downloading the bulk of the files. steam still has to launch the game and such and thats not hard for them to see

Well, I think the achievement thing has been around for so long that if Valve cared, they would have done something about it by now. For example, it wouldn't be impossible for Valve to know if the machine that's apparently running the game even has the game's files on it. :)
Anyway, if someone uses it to get cards or achievements, it doesn't hurt me. I run the games simultaneously, but if someone's hd is full, or they hit their download limit, go for it... :)

I wrote Steam-Support and asking if its allowed... better than reading all this unconfirmed crap.

Can you "run" SAM windows for games you don't own, or trick it into saying you're playing a game you don't own (for the cards)?
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes you can, there is a trick to make Steam think you play games you didn't install yet as long as you own the game.

At least it will save me a few hours from downloading 25GB Hitman just for cards.
