Hail good people!

New event + FREE GAME!

Our group and curator page is still very young, but we've grown a lot this year! We reviewed a lot of new releases and had a lot of fun! Not all card games are the same though and we certainly had our favorites. So we decided to have a little contest. If you can guess our 3 favorite games released this year that we reviewed, you can win one of these games (your choice!):

  • Styx: Master of Shadows
  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior Trilogy
  • Overlord: Ultimate Evil Collection
  • Tropico 4: Steam Special Edition
  • Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition
  • Brawlout

Post your answers in our group thread.

Contest lasts until 26th December.

Hail good people!

We, Card GAME KING, are a curator group, which, surprise! is all about reviewing card based video games and finding the next big hit in the subgenre.

We review everything from roguelike deckbuilders (Slay the Spire like) and board game adaptions of popular card games to games being creative with card mechanics.

The aim of the group is to offer a comprehensive list of the best card games on the market making it easier to find hidden gems you may have otherwise overlooked.

We also giveaway games exclusively for our group members (link to it in the curator page) and also make public giveaways.

If you enjoy playing card based video games or just want to support us, consider following us on Card GAME KING

P.S.
If you want to talk we also have a discussion on SG here

Book of Demons! https://store.steampowered.com/app/449960/Book_of_Demons/

I don't know if this counts, but my favorite type seems to be roguelike deckbuilding card games. I've played a few on my mobile, like Rogue Adventure, Night of the Full Moon and Meteorfall. I've recently won Book of Demons here, and I didn't expect that I'll loved it. And it seems more similar games are coming from the developer, which is great.

I am currently loving, you guessed right, Slay The Spire!
Finished Act 3 with the three original characters (played with Xbox Game Pass), the fourth character is completely different from the other, so I am still unable to grasp how to reach the end of Act 3 with her, much less beat Act 4.

My favorite card game is Megaman Battle Network, so One Step of Eden will probably be on the top of my list once I play it

I totally feel your frustration with the Watcher.

I think you can either play defensively - focus on Like Waters and the defensive stance and only go into the offensive stance when you have a way to get out of it again - which works but doesn't really seem like what the class is designed for. Or you can go offensive - go into Wrath whenever you have a few attacks lined up, burst everything down, and don't look back. It's surprisingly effective, and disconcerting, to play so offensively, because each fight either ends with you taking no damage or taking a whole lot of damage. In that sense, it seems like the most luck-based and unpredictable of the classes.

For Act 4, I think Lesson Learned is the key - because it turns out that if you can upgrade most of your deck, you're in a great position to take out Act 4. Divinity also carried me through the last boss of Act 4 - once I got my powers in play I would go into Divinity every other turn, and was able to take the boss down before I died to all the incoming damage.

I was pleasantly surprised by Neoverse. They've added many new mechanics in comparison to StS and I loved them all. Truly wished more devs would these up and implement them in their games.

My favorite card game is Slay the Spire - I am amazed at how good it is. If I had to pick a desert island game that I would be the least likely to ever get bored with, it would be Slay the Spire.

My favorite card game on steam is Eternal Destiny. I haven't played it in a while but it is a very fun game. I should probably get the DLCs for it, then I'd have a good reason to revisit it :P

I think Cultist Simulator counts as a card game, and that is what I pick as my favourite of that genre, thanks to is lore that is hidden away behind rituals and dark corners.

Magic the gathering was my favorite, I still have many to play or finish (if we speak about those with story mode). Would like to play Slay the Spire for example. I also always (since a child) liked very much tabletop (board) games (don't know if you would call them card games) like Talisman.
Already had followed you curator ofc.

Hand of Fate 2 is my favorite PC card game and my favorite roguelite: It doesn't have too much RNG for me as it balances strategy and some skill, it has enough progression & unlocks, it doesn't rely on me to just "git gud", deck building isn't too complex for me, and the story lines told through series' of unlockable cards & characters are decent. Its a damn shame the Australian developer boldly stopped any new game development with no new projects in sight after HoF 2.

Yeah, it was sad hearing they had to shutdown as a studio. I do hope someone picks up the quite original concept they had and does something with it.

I guess I will go with Minion Masters if that counts? If Minion masters does not count then Armello would be my next choice.

It sure does :) Still play MM from time to time when I have some time to kill. And the devs have been very nice which is always great to have in an online game.

I really really like the old-school card game "hell", as well as the game "phase 10". My favorite PC-based card game is the game "Yukon" in The Yukon Trail (by MECC).

I like the way Card City Nights uses a grid and arrows on the cards to create combos. I also really liked Coin Crypt (never finished it but always meant to go back to it) for the way it uses coins for everything. Coins are both your currency and your attacks. And there are a lot of different viable strategies as well.

I loved Card City Nights, it managed to offer tactical decisions while still not taking itself too seriously. Coin Crypt looks like an interesting concept. Might check it out!

I'm not much of a card game enthusiast but then I played Slay the Spire and it's incredible
I'm interested in playing Armello for a while, even before I first played Slay the Spire, hopefully I'll get it soon
