Hello

I signed up for participating in a short-length film fest which is called: "The message of the youth" or something like that.
In my team I am in the position of the scriptwriter. Currently we have agreed upon filming something about the social problems of our life, like people paying more attention to their smartphones and stuff than to each other.
Having that said I am still unable a plot that would make for a 5-10 minute movie, including short outset, main character, problem, some development, culmination and then final.
Since Steamgifts forums are so awesome and I have already turned to you guys for a couple of times with different matters, I hope you will help me with this one too.
I wish you could brainstorm me with some ideas about the plot, or probably share a story (not necessarily your very own, I don't actually mind making a movie out of someone else's story - it's non-commercial anyway and we're hardly even getting a prize for it. Needless to say that we will mention the source in the film, too.
Here's a giveaway for your attention. http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/XcmT1/tropico-4-collectors-bundle

P.S. author of the best story or idea that will move me from the deadlock will receive another Tropico 4 directly through steam, omitting the giveaway, as my sincere gratitude

upd. I came up with a plot myself, but some general suggestions came in handy. Thank you very much for your attention and hey, the giveaway is still here ;)

I would help since I'm a writer but.... I don't know. I'm skeptical about giving out original ideas. Sorry

it doesn't have to be something overly original. just point out some possible ways to show the problem, perhaps...

it takes place in a not to distant future
just make a wasteland movie, switch the zombies with giant nokia 3310 (they need to have Nicolas cage face on them, because it's essential for the plot).
the plot twist, is that none of it actually happened, the people we see in the movie were actually brainwashed by Apple, knowing that they no longer could control us into consuming their own products, resorted into hacking the mind of a few selected people to eliminate the rest of the race.
in the end, there only Apple utopia...and its shit

I'll give a general suggestion, do it without dialogue, only some dramatic music, like this zombie short-movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gryenlQKTbE

compare the smartphone plusvalue with friends plus value.See if it explains where is the problem. Think the problem comes from giving a value to concepts, like stories.... Think american psycho with ''asperger syndrome''.

hope you'll pick my idea.

I usually charge $50 an hour for this service, and you'd have to be a close friend or family member for me to brainstorm for free. Even so, It's possible I could be persuaded to just give you some topics to work with.

Perhaps do a dual timeline/alternate timeline film either via side by side frames or one version taking place straight after the other. Have the first time line take place focused on a main character constantly obsessed with their smartphone, the second time line is the same character who is not obsessed (May choose to leave their phone at home).

Then have several encounters that are resolved/interacted differently because of the phone being present/not present.
